So Haynes, the guy who got out competed by another rookie maybe moving to play center. Coach wanted replace Olu at all cost?

It makes sense on paper. Haynes is not the biggest. He's not the most powerful. He's more of a finesse blocker or a combo blocker. He's not really a gap blocker that can blow up defenders off the ball.

I rather just roll with Olu Olu as a backup and go big to sign Drew Dalman.

I like this move. Haynes is 6’2”. He’s a little small for a guard. He’d be a good center with a mobile qb like Russ. Russ could see. That’s why Pete liked Joey Hunt so much. Too bad we don’t have a mobile qb...

JS needs to draft IOL in 1st or 2nd and sign a serious FA OG no older than 28 & count some greenbacks out. He also needs to add some new blood in a swing tackle and a center or C/G. No more bargain basement O-Line shopping, Geno or whoever will never shine until it's fixed.
With the pressure in the pocket and the shameful waste of a potentially huge running game, I would think John's job would be dependent on this being fixed soon.

Since 2010. So JS's entire career. Off the top of my head I remember a stat that said Russ was the fastest under pressure, but also the longest holding the ball. Again, off the top of my head.
Russ was a ball holding wizard, of both good and bad. A self sacker, who would get out of things others can't, but also put himself in position others would not. Ugh
It's hard to judge JS off RW years, but that said, fastest under pressure is telling. Russ wanting the front office to spend on big catching targets and was taking a crap ton of the cap space.
It's hard to spend on OL with a top 5 paid QB.
Taking a look at JS's oline drafts selections and it is a freaking mess. JS needs to fix this Oline or leave. It's been too long. This for me is a make or break year.

Also. It can't be understated. Seahawks have a .606 win % for 6th place in the nfl during that stretch.
The teams in the graphic.
.606 Seahawks
.414 commanders
.455 Cards
.38 jets
.338 browns
.43 bears
.48 dolphins
.3148 Jags

Clearly, the Seahawks have been one of the best teams in all football despite a horrible OLine, and a sack magnet qb. JS is both to blame and to laud. He has had such a stark contrast of successful draft picks and unsuccessful picks depending on position.
Unfortunately his Oline picks have been greatly missed and mismanaged.

Missing Glowinski's ability was a major loss. Trading Britt (and selecting Britt) Picking Carpenter, and Moffitt. And many others.

I really like Olu Olu. I hope they don't mess him up. I have hope of Haynes. I just feel like JS will screw this up again.

That chart is misleading IMO. Let's keep in mind that sacks aren't 100% an OL stat. Our lofty spot on the chart is largely a product of the whole "Russ giveth, Russ taketh away" thing, where his elite ability to extend plays was tremendously beneficial to us, but that mentality also led to him taking a LOT of unnecessary hits. We saw the same thing with Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers too. Geno is also poor at knowing when to throw the ball away. Yes, you hope your OL can keep blocking forever, but that's not a reasonable expectation.

I don’t follow closely enough but does every team do this constant shuffling? to me it seems if you want a center draft a damn center instead of moving a failed guard or tackle around. Maybe everyone does it.

I hated the Carroll teams where it seemed more important to PC that the OLine was “versatile” instead of being “competent”

It’s also misleading in that everyone wants to use the stats that include the Super Bowl runs over a Decade ago which inflates the good stats and is really not indicative of the last decade.

All I got from this potential move to center is that they again drafted very poorly in selecting Haynes, who can’t play the position they drafted him for. Ridiculous!

There is a very false narrative building on this forum that JS hasn't had good o line picks. That's simply false.
Both for his earlier picks and lately he has had good O line selections.
Maybe he should have paid up to retain some of them. Perhaps that deserves a rethink but I have seen a pretty massive change in philosophy as soon as Carrol left when it comes to picking o lineman that can pass block.

This "story" feels like a manufactured issue to me. First I think Olu not being mentioned much during the games is probably indicative of him doing a commendable job. Second is if Haynes isn't strong enough to play guard how is he strong enough to play center?
Haynes just needs to work on getting stronger while adding good weight and if we need a better center we need to find a better center, not try to pretend with of a non-center player. That is like replacing a flat tire with a flat spare. Thing is I don't see a problem with Olu. He seems to have filled a void in pretty good style.

No, every team does not do this. The teams with the best OLines don't do this. The teams with trouble spots do.

Was Olu that bad this year as the starter? Legit question, I didn't notice a drop off when pissflap up and retired like a bitch.
He had a couple of good games and several meh games for his first year starting:

Oluwatimi PFF 11525

I do like that he ended the season on a strong note, hopefully that carries into next season.
