There was a husky game the same weekend as the Zona game so there were alot of fans that went down for both.
I wouldnt expect quite the numbers we had in Zona for this game.
Yeah. The UW game played a big role. Also, in my experience AZ gets a decent amount of Hawks fans in general compared to other places. I've been there twice and both times there were a solid number of fans. Think it has to do with snowbirds who move down there and the fact that it's a close, easy flight to a nice warm part of the country. It's also one of the easier flights to take from Seattle. And unlike SF, there isn't the possibility of being stabbed.
I wouldn't expect close to what we saw in AZ last week. The Midwest Seahawkers do a nice gathering with their Ambush at the Arch. But beyond that, it's a long way from Seattle. And St. Louis isn't exactly what you'd call a destination city.
Leif is right though. Our road numbers are up this year a good amount. I've attended two road games, and have attended road games yearly for about a decade now. There's definitely an uptick. Opposing fans will cry bandwagon fans. But it really isn't the case for the most part. In the two games I've attended, all the fans I've met or spoken to were from the Seattle area or diehard locals who could prove their fandom. I think the increase in road fans is simply a case of fans being emboldened by having a team they are so excited about and proud to represent. Not everyone is a super fan who wants to travel across the country to see their team when it sucks or is mediocre. I am (Took me 8 road games til I ever saw a win). But I'm a little crazy in that regard. We're seeing fans getting excited enough to travel. And we're also seeing your more casual fans who live in other cities jumping on the chance to represent their team. One other thing. Having cool, fashionable jerseys definitely helps. In both Indy and Houston I met more than a few Hawks fans who had their wife or gf who wasn't from Seattle wearing Hawks gear as a show of support. You never saw that before with the old unis. Something about the new color scheme makes it much easier for women to get on board with wearing it.
That all said. With the WS game going on at the same time. And with how STL is a baseball town 1,000 times over before it gives a crap about the Rams when they're less than good. We could end up hearing Hawks fans on tv. It won't be like in AZ where it sounded like a college bowl game on a neutral field. But we got a good shot at making an impact to some extent.
