Because we are fans and closet conspiracy theorists who think the NFL is always out to get us, we are always convinced that the media pulls strings to get juicy match ups, usually screwing us over. If you look at the teams that are left in the division, you can create a storyline with Seattle in almost of all cases. Now thinks of 49ers-Saints or Green Bay-Panthers. The same thing can't be said. See below

Story lines that the network can gin up for teams playing us

49ers - third time meeting each other. Two smash mouth teams/young QBs/nastiest rivalry in football, similar to Stealers-Ravens

Saints - Will they get Beast Quaked in Seattle again? Can NO put two roads wins in a row?

Green Bay - Revenge of the fail mary (this could be bad for us). After playing in the Tundra, did GB win because of the weather? We'll find out in Seattle.

Panthers - Has RW or Cam Newton established himself as the premier young QB in the league? Can the Panthers avenge their week 1 loss at home?

Panthers-49ers could have a similar story line for what it's worth.

If Denver makes it to the Super Bowl, I think all bets are off as everyone will want to send Payton packing with a ring. However, up to that game, Seattle has the most juicy plot lines.

I always felt like the 2005 team's PR people lost that XL game. They needed to come up with a compelling enough storyline to get the national media to run with it. Instead we got Jerome Bettis "Win one for The Bus" 24-7 in the media coverage, especially the TV game coverage. We played "nice" and didn't rock the boat. Foo that. Didn't work. The refs conveniently did their part to "help" the media storyline (and the betting payoffs).

I think this year's PR staff is legit Super Bowl quality. I think they can take us to the promised land. Between RW's abundant press, Tate pissing off Packer fans and Cowboy fans in the national media last season, then taunting the Rams this season, and of course Sherman 24-7, the Seahawks all-around have the most interesting and compelling storylines. Then add in PED's and suspensions, and it just gets better.

See, it doesn't matter if the fans, nationwide, love you or hate you, as long as it's one or the other. The 2005 team was an awesome team, but just too "nice" and "respectful" and "boring" to the national media storyline purveyors. If the national consciousness was ignorant and indifferent towards the Seahawks, we'd be screwed. Happily, that is NOT the case this year. The 2013 team has *lots* of national NFL fan emotion attached to a lot of different personalities and issues.

We had the better team in 2005 and didn't win. The officiating took 11 points off the board. We weren't 11 points better than the Steelers.
Can't you come up with something more insightful than simple reflexive denial?
Plus I'm saying this team is unlikely to get subconsciously screwed by the officials trying to make a game conform to a league/media storyline.

It's possibly true this team could be good enough to overcome the level of reffing bias the 2005 team faced. We (including you) don't know. I'm saying it's unlikely the 2013 team will have to. And your point is?

Are you taking the Rapelisburger sneak into account? The one where the ball didn't cross the goal line? My opinion is a 21 point
differencial. Refs taking 14 pts from us and gifting them one.

We got 3 on the DJack OPI call that took 7 off the board. So I only count that as -4. I'd forgotten about the QB sneak play but if it wasn't 4th down I wouldn't count it against the refs' point swing.

While I'm usually not a conspiracy theorist, XL did turn me into more of one. It definitely seemed like the NFL wanted to send that fat overrated slob Jerome "the bus" Bettis off with a ring. And they finally wanted to get one for Bill Cowher after all those years and their beloved Rooney family. As far as this year: I posted in another thread it's as if the NFL knew San Fran wasn't going to be playing Seattle in the divisional round due to the crappy early Saturday time slot they gave Seattle. Wouldn't they have been kicking themselves to have such a marquee game in the worst time slot of the weekend?? John Clayton said the same thing on the radio. I'm calling it now: watch San Fran beat Carolina next week on some very questionable calls in a close game. Wouldnt it be so perfect for the NFL to have Seattle and San Francisco play for the NFC Championship Game?

Screw Manning. He already has a ring. If the media focuses on Manning getting another and makes no mention of the Seahawks having NONE...

If we meet the Panthers - aside from the fact that there are two young QBs who are different in almost every way, surely the story will be "the last time both of these teams made the NFCCG was in the 2005 season... against each other... in Seattle. What will happen this time?"

Just as the story this week will be about avenging beastquake
