Maragos is awesome.

The guy I would say is a pretty decent player and looks the part as Earl Thomas' understudy. Not saying he is Earl Thomas but there are a plethora of safeties in the NFL that can do much worse than Maragos. Plus, the guy is a monster special teamer.

I'm a big Deshawn Shead supporter, as his projection and style resembles Jordan Babineaux with more potential. He's big and quick and fits what the Seahawks want but needs some polish and experience. I really thought Shead had a chance over Margagos.

But watching Maragos this pre-season, he impressed me, like he's capable of "stepping up" if needed for Earl Thomas.

I know everyone likes to think "game over" if the Seahawks Defense ever lost Thomas for some time but I think if you replaced Thurmond with Browner depending on the WR. And Maragos steps up. The "D" would be able to handle it.

Anyway, Kudos to Maragos. Hopefully, similar cuts will follow suit no matter how small the savings are, it all adds up. How awesome would it be if the Seahawks quietly roll-over $10 million into 2014?

We need ET3 but I like maragos, glad he wanted to stick around. Maybe Farwell and McQuistin will take a cut too.

Are we making room to roll over or are we planning some type of trade. Still seems weird to only have 2 TE's and some ?'s at the DT spot.

When Pete recently said the "door was open" for Mike Rob to return, I got the distinct impression that they released him after he refused a pay cut.
I agree. What I wonder about is how likely our FO thought MRob was to agree to a pay cut before they asked him. I see the situation very differently depending on whether they thought he would agree or not.

Wants that ring.

Why not stay on a team that has the chance to do something special.

Also, I like Maragos for some reason.

Well I think this is over analysis. It was probably accept the deal or get cut.

He gets cut it probably means the end of his career. He stayed and took the cut because he probably had no choice.

Zactly this. Maragos was smart to do this but I don't think it has anything to do with anything other than that. Its not like he could go start for another team.

Agreed - this was a business decision. RFA tenders get no guaranteed compensation and thus if he was cut before week 2 - he would have just received a single game cheque - $81,250.

For a guy on the bubble to get roughly 2 game cheques up front (155 K) and have a more attractive contract to remain on the team until the end of the season - it was a smart move for him to take it.

I totally agree. I think he is an 'decent backup,' but he wouldn't start for anyone else. I think because of that and his knowledge of what this team wants to do gives him more value here than elsewhere. He knows it. Hawks know it. Good move for both.

Good for both... yes. But bring in a SB ring and it will raise his stock for the next team so he can get paid more down the road.

Maragos

Yeah, if feels like 'take a cut or be gone' but it appears they gave him a wack of dough up front to soften the blow. He's a UFA next year, so having a ring would help with his cachet on the FA market, hence why he didn't tell them to go pound sand. I can't see Shead taking over as the back up FS next year though as he has more of a SS toolbox (from what I can tell). He's a big thumper; Kam lite. We'll likely find somebody in the 5-7th round to be the new understudy for ET.
