If indeed, it was an attempt to try'n fool the Thumb Tacks, I get it, but Maragos fumble is unfortunate, BUT, that play-call wasn't on him, it was on Pete, which he owned up for calling it.
For anyone calling Maragos stupid for that play?, WTF are you talking about??, okay, he fumbled, so did Lynch, so is he stupid too?

Did you even watch the play?

I don't think it was conclusive. If anything it looked like his knee was down on the other guys arm.

Either way it was a stupid play by Maragos to not just eat the ball. And a stupid call by Pete to try a FG when our regulars are not there.

I couldn't agree more J. Basically, I would have to call this an absolutely stupid decision by Pete Carroll (and I'm betting if you got Pete alone and asked him about it, just between the 2 of you, he'd probably agree.) Seriously, the graphic flashes up there that Jon Ryan has NEVER attempted a field goal in an NFL game ... and last attempted one in a preseason game in 2004 in the CFL. Uh-Oh. Bigger problem -- Jon Ryan is the regular holder (who is now being asked to attempt the kick.) So, they pull in Chris Maragos to hold, who hadn't been a holder since he did it last at Wisconsin. That's a recipe for disaster ... and that's exactly what the Seahawks got on that play.

You know that Carroll is thinking that if he goes for it on 4th down and doesn't get it, he's thinking that's potentially a momentum changer in the Titans favor. Well that FG attempt sure changed momentum all right. If it were me and I were holding the clip board, I'd have gone for it. Bottom line is that (given the circumstances) I trust Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson to punch it in FAR MORE than I trust a back-up FG kicking unit that you know hasn't worked together all that much (if at all.)
Agree, if you don't make a TD on the play, it's 7-3 at the half. Hawks get the ball to start second half. I have no idea what PC was thinking there. Beginning to wonder why we get deep into the red zone, and only come away with 3 not 7. It got us in the Indy game, and almost got us in this game.

Really??????, it wasn't that he fumbled, dude tried to throw the ball "somewhere" with two guys on him. Ball goes 5 yards, gets picked up and run back for a touchdown. He should have just covered up and move on.

Whether the knee was down or not, he should have eaten the ball. If you are hoping to be bailed out of a bone-head play by luck or bad officiating, you deserve what you get. My suggestion is give it a break. Fate balanced things out by letting Wilson recover that bone-head fumble recovery the Titans attempted. Or that gift interception Fitzpatrick threw.

Really, this play just provided the most irrefutable argument ever for why your holder should NOT be your backup kicker.
And tell us, please, what % of FGs and PATs in the past 10 years have been kicked by a team's backup kicker?

I'm guessing it's minuscule... way less than 1%.

I don't agree with your logic.

My wife asked me why we didn't have a true backup kicker.

Instead of explaining roster spots and the likelihood of losing a kicker I pushed her down the stairs and set fire to my house.

How bout Maragos just get tackled instead of trying to throw the ball and no one has to worry about a fumble review? Or how bout Pete go for it on 4th and 2 when his kicker's in the locker room?

He went for it the first time, why risk something horrible happening with a dude who hasn't held in 10 years and a guy who's NEVER kicked a FG? The worst that happens is you don't score and you still go into halftime up 7-3.

There are people to blame for this debacle, but one of them surely isn't the review ref.

Yeah, Margos needs to just jump on the ball and be down.

At home, that was a ridiculous call. At worst, we don't punch it in with virutally no time on the clock and they're stuck with a 98 yard drive. I hope to christ Pete pulls his head out next time.

There were just 2 seconds left on the clock, the only way Tennessee could have run a play after we ran it was on a PAT... and that's exactly what happened.

That was absolutely the most pathetic chain of events in Seahawks football I have ever watched.

Nothing I say here is new, but I just need to vent...

Terrible lack of situational awareness by Turbin to not hand the ball to the ref after his run.
Terrible idea by Wilson to flip the ball to the Ref rather than handing it to him.
Terrible mistake by Pete to go for a fieldgoal with a punter kicking and a backup safety holding.
Terrible ST coaching to use Maragos as a backup holder.
Terrible execution by Maragos on handling the snap.
Terrible decision by Maragos to not just fall on the football and cut the losses.

Arrrrghhhhhhhhhhh ...it burns...........!

1) The only reason it was a bad call to kick was because we had backups at those positions not for taking the points with 2 secs left
2) The bad call is having your backup kicker be your holder. The error for this situation started in PRE-SEASON..........that is horrible.
3) Backup qb is your holder who is a person trained to be cool in these situations and make good decisions with the ball
4) Down or not down - what was shown at the game which is what the ref saw was non-conclusive. I was wondering if there was an angle of the left knee which could have been down before the right. No good angle shown at the game

To checkdown with 20 secs left was a bad decision. Like taking a sack pushing you out of field-goal range like in other games. I love RW but he really needs to work on some situational awareness that doesn't involve running for a first down

His knee wasn't down first, but that's practically irrelevant. I want to know WHAT IN THE HELL WAS GOING THROUGH HIS HEAD to not just fall on the ball and take no points?

Talk about a superhero complex. In trying to play QB in the big leagues, you gave 7 points to the other team! :34853_doh: :177692: :141847_bnono: :229031_rant: :229031_rant: :229031_rant:

Someone clearly did not tell him to just eat the ball if he fumbles the snap before they went out there. Very stupid play.

No doubt, seems like guys do that crap almost every time. He needs to do the right thing and just jump on it. Dude, you're not going to throw a TD, it's not gonna happen.

I'm also curious why Ryan didn't just fall on the ball. He should have known better. Don't just stop and look at it.
