Says if we would have had him in 2005 we would have had 2500 yards.
says Shaun was good but sometimes, the field got a little "slippery" and the sidelines played good linebacker.

SA may have been as (or maybe even more) talented than Lynch, but Lynch is easily twice the football player SA ever was.

SA was awesome for a lot of years, lynch is awesome now. Do we really need the comparisons? SA trash talk is ignorant.

As much as I defend Alexander around here, I'd have to agree with him that Lynch is the superior player, I don't think Shaun would dispute that either. But lets be clear here, Alexander was no joke during his hayday while with the Seahawks.

yup.

SA was a great RB, just played a different style than Lynch.

Lynch is a tougher runner, no doubt. He fights for yards.

But SA was a great back too. Even with a great O-line you still have to be good to rack up the stats he did.

Did Strong really say any of that?? I would love to see or hear a direct quote. Not calling OP a liar, but them's some strong words.

I would have to agree. As much as I love SA, I like the Beasts tough running style a bit better. One thing I would really like to see this regime do is bring back the goal line stretch run play SA used to score on regularly. Can you imagine the OL getting a good seal on the edge while the Beast runs toward the side line finding the crease and going one on one w/ a DB or LBr for that one yard. Maybe he would not but as good at it as SA was but I tend to think he could be.

I think the offensive line would have a lot to do with what either player would do, remember there were no injuries the entire year to that line in 2005 and this is what helps you get to the promised land of the NFL, the Superbowl.

I wonder what player is faster in the open field as we already know who is better at blowing up defenders at the line.

GO HAWKS!!!

I think in terms of the current NFL Alexander was like a better, faster version of Alfred Morris, but with an aversion to contact. I think if you go back and watch games from 2003-2005 you'd be surprised how good Shaun looked at RB, it wasn't just the O-line that made him great. But all that said, Lynch is better. He's a better blocker, almost as good a receiver, and in terms of resilience, balance and agility, it's no contest. Alexander has the edge in vision, but Lynch is no slouch in that category.

All things being equal, Lynch is better imo. Give Lynch that 2005 O-Line and he would have gotten 2500 yards.

I hate the "soft" talk about Alexander. Who cares if he ran into guys or not? He set an all-time record for most TDs in a season (which lasted only a year thanks to AP in his prime) and had how many straight 1400+ yard seasons? He was a 3-time Pro Bowl selection and an All-Pro once. Alexander was AWESOME, and any fan who was actually around in 2005 knows that.

What's really sad is that the very people who should be most supportive of Alexander are the Seattle fans who watched him take us to a Superbowl. Seattle fans, of all people, should praise Alexander for his record-breaking performance in 2005, because all those TDs were a BIG reason we made it to the Superbowl. Yet, all people do is bash on the guy. I don't get it. I hate it, in fact. I don't get how someone calls themself a Seahawk fan and then bash on the greatest RB of franchise history (by a significant margin).

Comparing him to Lynch is stupid. I LOVE Beast Mode, and find him immensely entertaining to watch. But he hasn't even come close to Alexander's stats yet. Lynch is still 3000 yards and 50 TDs away from Alexander's career totals. Alexander was injured then retired at 30. Lynch is one year from that, so no way does he touch Alexander's career achievements without pulling off a few seasons of record-breaking dominance.

And again, you wanna trash-talk Alexander, that's fine. Just take off the Seahawk gear when you do, because you're trash-talking one of the best players to EVER put on the blue and green.

alexander was probably faster in space at the linebacker level and beyond, but lynch definitely has the better balance.

How about we just toast to having two great running backs play with our franchise?

Yessir! We've been blessed, aside from that two year window with he who shall not be named running into the backs of his offensive line, I hated that man.

I love me some Beast Mode, but this is just absurd. No player in the history of the NFL has ever come close to 2500 yards in a season. Only seven times in the history of the NFL has 2000 yards been broken and the single season record comes up almost 400 yards short of 2500.

Alexander = more finesse and he also ran behind a stellar O-Line and a Mack Truck, er, Strong.
Lynch runs with abandon SLAM & push.

The only thing I'll comment is I wouldn't want SA with this OLine.

I'm as big a Shaun Alexander fan as any. He was THE MAN for quite a number of years, and a stellar running back. That said, I agree with Mack Strong; I think Lynch is the better back. Now I don't think Lynch would have eclipsed 2,500 yards with that line. Maybe. But I don't think he had the elusiveness and speed Shaun did. Beastmode drags people for his yardage; Shaun eluded them for his. I think once each got past the linebackers, Shaun would win. But getting there consistently, Lynch would win.

I do think Lynch with 2005's line would be better than Shaun with today's line. By far. But 2,500 yards is a long, long way, and remember, Shaun had an incredible, record-setting streak of games with at least one 10-yard+ run that isn't likely to be broken in a while, not even by Lynch.
