Seriously.

Had we won, next week would mean nothing, and we quite probably would have lost, and then entered the playoffs on a downward note. If you buy into anything relating to the laws of probability. A bad home game was coming, who hasn't had them? The Panthers(who was that team)? The Broncos (on MNF, no less)? 49'ers lost at home to both Colts and Panthers.

So this is not the big collapse that everyone is talking about.. we lost a home game at a critical time... what better ice-water bucket in the face could a team ask for who is riding the NFC stallion in the highest stride STILL with a 12-3 record.

Our HOME "loss" could have come in a playoff game!

But as it is it was the best possible time to have a home loss. It's exactly what we need right know to BUILD ON!!

Sorry, I don't share the sediments that other do on this. We were OVER-RATED! Now we are just the great team we know we are. Capable of taking this season and wrapping it up in style and class with a nail-biting crisp and cutting edge fashion!

I'm more in than ever before!!!

Not the best thing, but not the worst. Losing next week would be pretty bad. Losing in the playoffs - don't want to think about my reaction.

What would be worse though.

Losing the last game of the season, or winning the last and losing the second to the last?
Which has more impact on the real deal... the playoffs.

The season is merely a means to the ends... the playoffs is what it's ALL ABOUT!!!

I don't really buy into the "losing a game" is the best thing that could have happened idea. In the same sense I understand how hard it is to go undefeated and never lose.

I guess I prefer this, than something like what the Patriots did a few years ago going undefeated up to the Super Bowl and then losing.

I disagree, the best thing is to win that game. I think our players do fine with the chips they already have on their shoulders, they don't need extra justification. I actually took this offensive performance as a bad sign. Russ had a bad game and while the announcers were talking about his back-shoulder pass as a showcase of Wilson's ability to throw people open, the times where he was able to pull that off were few.

The defense played lights out given how much time they were on the field. The Cards had the ball for 37 minutes and I can't think of a defense that wouldn't have wilted under that pressure. The touchdown they got was a perfectly thrown ball against a perfectly positioned defender that had his hand on the ball twice on the way down. You have to tip your cap to Floyd on that one because he had to make an amazing play.

A blowout just before the finish line because you never had a pit stop... hey there was an animated film where that happened too. ;)

This loss won't mean dick when we hoist that trophy in the waning hours of Feb. 2nd 2014!!

I love it when things come down to the wire... its the best kind of entertainment there is.

I know people only care about the Lombardi and expect perfection and blow outs every week buts when its all on the line like it will be next Sunday is going to be a great test for this team, win or lose, heading into the play-offs.

WIN- you get home serve in the Play-Offs with a little humility that you're not invincible at Home

LOSE- you now have to go on the road for 3 games while disappointing a fan base that more than less has been with you every step of the way... cheering for greatness.

Do these players MAN UP, can these coaches GAME PLAN UP, are they are WHO THEY THOUGHT ARE or WHO WE BELIEVE THEY ARE? Are they truly CONTENDERS or just "lucky" PRETENDERs.

One way or the other, we find out sooner rather than later, and it should be some damn good football.

Yeah so happy we lost. Now instead of resting Okung an extra week he has to either play a full game against the Rams or we watch the Rams kill our QB for four quarters.

All of the "losing was the best thing" posts point to some made-up psychological benefit that may or may not accrue, and ignore the fact that even if there were a BS psychological benefit to a loss, it would be overwhelmed by the non-BS real benefit of locking up HFA and resting starters.

Best thing that could happen???? Um, hell no.
The fact that most of us are p o'd, bummed, frustrated, shocked etc. proves that there is not way it was a "good thing"

Because sometimes more often than not, complacency is an even bigger loss. No one really wants to lose but you can keep mulling over regrets when we know there are silver linings to realize and lessons to learned.

Even if we lose next week, its not the end of the effing world, Seahawks will play one more game after that, unlike some people around here who want circle jerk the negativity troll around here, I believe this team can win on the road if it has to go there.

Also, this is football, if you need spa treatment to be a contender in the play-offs, then maybe you shouldn't be playing.

I disagree.. the best thing would have been to wrap up everything yesterday and let the Seahawks backups battle the Rams.

Now we left the door open for San Francisco to kick in. It's not like we've blown the Rams out recently either.. we've won 2 of the last 3 meetings against them but they've been nail biters - including one at home.

I'm kinda with the OP.

I don't think I can go so far as to call it "the best thing ever", but there's definitely a positive that can be spun out of it. Look at it this way...

This team knows it has all the potential in the world to be the best team in the league, and already has wins over those teams which look to stand between them and the Owl. In their heads, they know they can beat enyone. On the field, they HAVE beaten pretty much everyone. With the exception of Indy, they have beaten the teams that beat them. BUT... this game serves as the all important reminder that IN ORDER for them to BE ABLE to beat anyone, they need to bring their A-Game each and every time. Now they know now what happens if they bring less than 100%, even at home, against a quality opponent; they lose.

For all that losing sucks, I'm greatful for the lesson the boys have learned heading into the playoffs. Now they're in a position where they know they have to step on the necks of STL to clinch, which I'm sure they'll do, and going into the playoffs in a "step on their necks" frame of mind can't be a bad thing. All will be well. I'm not letting this loss ruin Christmas.

It will be if we beat the Rams and play with focus and intensity at home in the playoffs. I believe in this team.

Another good thing is the end for all Wilson MVP talk. I love guy as much as any Hawks fan but there was never a chance. Peyton Manning has thrown the most TDs ever... That is pretty unbeatable in that race. So, now we can focus on more important things, such as just winning the Rams, in any possible manner.

Other obvious positives besides, "getting that inevitable loss at home out of the way" and "getting a terrible game out of #3's system BEFORE the playoffs start" is:

1) If the Niners lose tonight (not only will last nights game and the Rams game next week become meaningless), but Arizona can knock them out of the playoffs with a win next week. How awesome would that be?

2) We still haven't lost a game by more than 7-points in the Wilson-era.

3) We still haven't given up a score on an opponents opening drive.

4) Our secondary might have solidified itself as maybe the best of all time with those 4 INTs.

5) We no longer should have to worry about Turbin returning kickoffs in the playoffs when it matters.

...oh and..

6) <-- is how many yards we gave up on 2 punt returns for Patrick Peterson and are looking at the record for best punt coverage team of all time!

Our defense has also forced 10 turnovers in the last 2 games (I'm counting Mendenhall's fumble ofcourse because it was)

At the end of the day, I'll bet the offense will eventually do something with all the opportunities if they happen to present themselves moving forward.

Our defense also played for 38 minutes? In such cases, opposing teams usually tend to score 30+ bergers in those scenarios.

Seahawks have the best D in the NFL, and the Seahawks are getting a top 10 CB (this year) back to bolster the depth.

But I agree one the best consolation prizes has to be Angry Doug Baldwin being Awesome Doug Baldwin at Kick-Returning. And getting Robert Turrible off the field.

Robert Turbin should stick to Pass Protection because that's all he's good for on a consistent basis.
