If we trade DK and we keep Geno and he has another average year now we're stuck paying a 35 year old QB with no trade value.
I doubt Geno gets a contact that is going to be that hard to move on from.

I'd bet almost all of the guaranteed money would probably be next season only, with only a moderate amount for 2026 and basically zero for 2027.

Gut feeling is he'll sign an extension but not huge money. I don't think he has a ton of leverage. We draft a QB in 2026 and that QB sits for a year.

If Jaxson Dart falls to them in the 3rd round they may kick the tires on trying to develop him.

I doubt JS lets him walk/allows us to tank with him potentially being on the hot seat.

You run with a rookie QB or Howell you might as bank on a 5 win season tops. This roster has a ton of talent but lacking the true elite talent that gets you far in the postseason. Since we haven’t been used to having a string of bad losing seasons in 2 decades I can’t see Hawks fans being content with cutting or trading Geno and becoming a bottom feeder for the next 2-5 seasons and that being generous considering they hit on whomever they draft next QB wise. Keeping Geno guarantees you a 8-9 10-7 record but definitely not going to lead you deep into the postseason. Yeah the more I type here the more I guess I’m contradicting myself and would like to see the Hawks gamble and get a top 10 pick and a QB of the future.

With Mike at the helm and looking at how a dogshit franchise the last decade in Denver turned it around in 1 season by gambling on Nix and having the leagues #1 D (PFF) it may be worth getting rid of Smith and taking some chances for once.
First off

F Donk Forever.

Secondly - You aren't wrong. Maybe it is time to take a legit shot?

Maybe. I donno. Hard to commit to a rebuild as a fan when you can either end up turning it around in 1 or 2 drafts like the Texans for example (I know they haven’t done much in the postseason but the foundation is there for years of winning their division and being a playoff team) or be in football purgatory forever like the New York teams.

Hopefully they can just hit on a QB not taken in the top 5 and continue to steadily improve with Geno being a stop gap. That’s what I’d personally like to see but footballs a game of inches not only on the field but off the field with the decisions being made in the draft and free agency.

If I were JS and Jody Allen, I would think that the prospect of a young rookie qb and revamped receiving corps and Oline would be a much better sell and money maker and generate more excitement among the fan base than trotting out a 34 yr old regressing qb who has never won a playoff game. It's just stale, boring, and often times maddening and unwatchable. Time to hit the big red reset button imo.

Jake Browning has said he would like a shot to be the starting QB for a team with rumors of teams like the Titans, Rams, Giants, Browns possible destinations. Since we are already in trade mode, why not inquire about the Huskies alltime leading passer?
I doubt he would be cost prohibitive and Jake to Bobo sounds pretty cool.

Spot on. Laughing hard at the Donkeys as they have struggled for the last 8 seasons was fun. But the last thing we want is to become that. Unlikely - but it is scary to pull the trigger - just have to hope JS/MM know what they are doing.

I loved Browning at the huskies but he isn't a starting QB. Lack of arm strength
