This isn't news, the Seahawks have done this a lot over the last 10, 15 years. THey treat their players well, are straight up with them, and many times have told them "Go see what you get offered in free agency, then come talk to us.

That's just like the "rumor" that "The Seahawks are going to sell the team" right before the Superbowl.

We heard that right after Paul passed away, it was in his will. How long ago was that?

Every time there is a bit of a lull, somebody comes out with "I just heard this at the (put location here), and the (put team here) are going to do something that they said they were going to do (place time passage here) ago."

He shouldn't take a discount, especially given how rarely RBs get third contracts worth much of anything. These guys bust their asses, beat their bodies to hell, and put their long-term health at serious risk to entertain fans that will turn on them at a moment's notice, and on teams that will discard them the second theyre no longer useful. He has his post-football career to think about, and I want him to get everything he can now. Loyalty in football is for suckers.
Really, that should be up to him. Like I said, he should take what he wants to take that is offered to him, but saying he shouldn't take a discount is kind of anti-team. If this is the team he wants to play on and he is willing to take less than to go elsewhere that is the ideal situation for us as fans.

We have a lot of great players - they ALL deserve to get paid. Frankly, I don't understand how any of them can get by on less than $10-50 million per year. Some of these guys are having to drive last year's model Maserati for Chrissake.

I meant he deserves to get paid and should seek the maximum for his efforts and if that be from another team (which is looking very likely atp) then so be it. If Seattle values him at 10, then they should stay at 10.

Whether or not the numbers are accurate, I’m sure this kind of conversation took place.

This is best chance to get what he's worth. I hope he doesn't take a discount.
Given the statistics for running backs, I agree, he should get paid while he has the chance. May just be the only one.

$10M per year to split carries with another RB and stack Lombardis. Put me down for the next 5 years. Where do I sign?
You haven't been listening - everything's about the money. $13M for the Browns, or $10K for the Seahawks? Browns all the way - you get that bonus time off when other RB's are beating themselves up during the playoffs. I'd trade JSN to the Browns as well (after they assure him that he'll be the highest-paid WR in the league, 'cause that's all that counts) - it will be entertaining to watch him trying to catch passes from Shedeur - the guy who knows he can "Dominate the league."

The fact that we got rid of Metcalf and Russell gives me confidence (after leaving us, they both 'got paid').

In the last couple of decades, top-tier RBs have rarely remained with their first team their entire careers. 2005 and prior had more who stuck with one team their entire careers, but after that, top-tier RBs started to be let go pretty easily. Yeah, $$$ is a big part of it, but for RBs, the relatively short peak periods of the high-abuse RB position is also a part. But in the case of K9, he still has at least another 3 kick-ass years in him I would think.

Well no RB says they don't want more carries, BUT spliiting the carries also gives him more likely more years in his career. He is sure to me pressured by his agent to go big and not go back home of course, agent gets a bigger payday then. Also it really depends on how much he values this culture.

If he goes to a state with an income tax . . .
Great point that is an advantage for Seattle. But we play four games every year in California which taxes each and every player's game check for every game played in that state. Drag but not getting your income taxed again in Washington remains a player plus.

Stay in Seattle for a $2-3 mill less a year, but know you will split carry’s and play a few years longer. Or go get paid and get 350 carry’s a year and be done in 3 years?
savage but true

*edit* I'm sure its been said before, but wonder if Kubiak is gonna try to get him

RB's career span is very short, probably the shortest in the league. Except on rare occasions they are probably good for 2 contract terms including their rookie contract so the next one.. This one for Walker has got to make him. He will probably never get a contract as lucrative as he can get right now. It just makes sense that he goes where the biggest contract is coming from.... he's won the SB, MVP everything is peachy...and I'm sure he's a wanted commodity somewhere.

The team wants him to stay, but I think Walker follows the money somewhere else.
I think what may happen is we lose Walker but use some of the money (that would've gone toward signing him) to re-sign Shaheed.

EDIT : Then again, with what @Chapow just stated with the Cap going up, maybe we might have enough to keep both and extend JSN and Spoon...
