Schadenfreude on steroids here.

Sadly I find myself agreeing with Kyle Brandt. Wilson isn't the person he he'd like us to believe he is. I also do think this likely has been so for quite a while.

To me there is little doubt he is or can be an elite QB. Regettably that has not been so for a few seasons now, and he seems to be into his image more than his game which has seriously tailed off.

The piling on is beginning on a national level and RW will need to refocus on his game and markedly improve or find himself repetitively excoriated by the media. For me he's no longer my QB and I am glad the team offloaded him, getting value. I find myself rooting for any team that plays against him and while not wishing him harm I am finding some perverse joy in seeing him fail.

For clarity he was my favourite Seahawks player for many seasons so there is internal conflict with my thinking.

Good post. Of all the comments, it's the closest to my take.

After ten years of listening to him several times a week during football season, I began to grow tired and annoyed with Russell. It's not that I disliked him. It's the sort of thing that quite often happens between two individuals that spend that much time together. Not everyone is cut out for each other.

Russell is preoccupied with his image. That's not necessarily a bad thing as people in the public eye should care about the image they project. But as an old wise man once said to me: An overdone strength becomes a weakness. His constant use of cliches and his pollyannish, everything is rainbows and unicorns' attitude really began to grow on me.

That shouldn't take away from the type of individual he is. Russell didn't get drunk, drive his car at 95mph on an urban freeway, then tell a cop that he had little dick syndrome. Despite his flaws, Russell a decent, stand-up guy that I would love to have as a friend or family member.

oof... so even the ignorant national media has woken up. rw3 is such an easy target right now. there's gonna be a huge uphill battle now for wilson to not only win games and justify his worth, but to also repair his damaged persona. and that persona, phony and constructed as it may be, might never recover. i'm starting to feel bad, and i started to sour on wilson long ago- after the superbowl loss.

if i had to guess, my bet is he tones down the persona, as in no more commercials or public appearances. and subsequently less "mr. nice guy" and "mr. unlimited'' vibes. and then starts to focus on the warts of his game. because being humbled will do that. pride will do that.

or maybe he goes totally different route- he starts manipulating to get coach hacket fired, uses his leverage to get the coach and playcalls he wants, and downplays all his own mistakes and plays the victim. maybe he embraces the negative attention. and ramps up his fake confidence to new levels.

it's gonna be interesting to watch it all unfold.
What company is going to pay to have Wilson do commercials right now? He’s a dumpster fire waiting to happen. Broncos County, Let’s… Hide. LOL!!!

I'm not sure he can tone down his persona @seatownlowdown. I've known narcissists who are just incapable of objective self critique. I know he said he has to be better, which is a step I suppose, but at the end of the day, things have to be about him.

Some people refuse to see in themselves what EVERYONE else sees in them. It's more rational to believe every numerator is wrong as opposed to the common denominator. Russ just calls them doubters and classifies it as adversity.

I don't know. My tipping point was an Instagram post shortly after his finger surgery. He captioned a post surgery pic with the word "LIONHEART". I mean, first off, who points out their own courage or bravery? Secondly, who the hell canonizes the bravery required to "pull through" a finger surgery in the same building where people are fighting through chemo and other life threatening ailments? (I do understand Russ does a lot for children with cancer).

Hell....it seems like even his humility is purpose wrapped in self promotion. It really sucks, because those early years of Wilson were sure a lot of fun to watch. In 2012-2015 I could have never envisioned seeing Russ how I do know.

I never really thought of Russell as being a Narcissist, as in Narcissistic Personality Disorder, but he does seem to have the core trait of trying "to appear to be WITHOUT FLAW". I don't think he's anywhere near a diagnosable level for NPD, just has elements of that. It's actually a burden, a lot of freaking extra work for someone with those feelings to have to always be "on", always working to protect their image.

Russell now has the biggest challenge of his life, to salvage his brand, while everything is turning to schitt. Can he do the work, to improve on the holes in his game? Can he get coach Hackett to create a "Russell Wilson Special" flavor of the offense Hackett wanted to run, and have it be something Russell is capable of being successful with? Sure, Russell can get the "Patrick price" on his insurance, but he can't truly run a "Patrick offense". (As in Mahomes, of course) That final 4th-and-1 play, Hackett drew it up, Russell ignored the primary read, which was Hamler, open, and instead looked for Sutton but didn't make a good enough throw nor was it on time. Now if that throw is 2 feet further out front, Sutton catches it, Russell is a hero, GOAT-level practically, a walk-off TD when it truly matters, Mr. Clutch. Just shows how fine the line can be between goat (small letters) and hero.

I'm neither rooting for or against Russell, though it has been delicious to see his flaws exposed in detail on national TV. He will either rise to the challenge, using his unique combination of QB SuperPowers, or forever be a punchline in discussions of overpaid washed-up QBs. Either one will be fascinating to watch.

I didn't realize until just a few minutes ago that the Broncos next game, Week 6 at LA vs. the Chargers, will be on Monday Night Football. That will make 4 out of the Broncos first 6 games that are televised live in Prime Time. By comparison, the two SB participants from last season, the Rams and Bengals, each will have been in Prime Time just twice during the same period of time. Was that by design or just the luck of the draw? Were the schedule makers trying to cash in on all the hype surrounding the trade?

The game at the Chargers on MNF presents Russell with an opportunity. If he plays well and the Broncos win, then it will go a long ways to rehabilitating his image, which has taken a huge hit at the start of the season. Winning cures everything. But if he plays poorly as he has in the first 5 weeks and the Donkeys lose, then the criticism will intensify.

Love the drama!

My son and I have been talking about this same thing. Why all of the primetime games for the Broncos?
My favorite quote from the video: "When did Russell Wilson turn into Mitch Trubisky?" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

They're cashing in on the hype that surrounded Russell and the trade. It was one of the biggest trades in NFL history. The Broncos have a very large and active fan base. This ain't the Jags or even the Rams, so interest would be high even without Russell. There is a history that can be referenced, ie how Peyton Manning, at the end of his career, came to the Broncos and took them to two Super Bowls and won a Lombardi.

They put them in Prime Time early in the season as it's before favorites emerge. Once we get past Week 6, no one is going to want to watch a 2-4 Broncos team play a 1-5 Jaguars, they're going to want to watch Chiefs-Bills. But early in the season, everyone is a contender.

That's my take on it, anyway.

I also think this is the reason why the national media is starting to catch on. Not only is Russ screwing up in primetime games, but he's no longer in Seattle. As everyone has said before, Seattle doesn't get the attention. He is no longer sheltered simply by playing in South Alaska. I don't feel bad for him though. This is what HE wanted. He made his bed, now he can lay in it.

But was she ever really relevant? She is a c list singer.
Wait, isn't she a big deal in entertainment world? She got invited to all the a list parties and sold lots of albums? I never heard of her before Russ picked her up but always under the impression that she was a major star.

I really don’t think has to tone it down. The Broncos are screwed. His cap hit would be pretty rough, worse than when he was here. And the Seahawks really couldn’t move him until this offseason due to his big cap impact.

If the end of his talent is near, he better grab as much cash as possible. People are going to hate him either way. He isn’t someone that a team admires, and that info is leaking out everywhere these days. Denver is in a bad spot.

I can't wait for Denver to shat the bed on prime time....again. Hilarious.

I knew this season would be fun, the better than expected play from Seattle is icing on the cake. I'm going to eat it up all year, nom nom nom.
