With the new rule, am I to assume there’s no more onside kickoff?

I believe that the reason for announcing it to the refs is to "toggle off" the landing zone criteria for a kickoff.
I haven’t seen one yet but I would think that everyone would have to line up differently than a regular kickoff since the way they line up now the kicker would just kick the ball to himself and have his guys block the other team from getting to it since they line up 25 yards in front of the kicker now.

This rule definitely makes the kickoffs more interesting but I think it kind of negates all the years of trying to make them safer. I really don’t want to lose my kicker mid game because he made a poor tackle

A lady after a date, keeping her panties on during sex would also be "interesting", but still stupid.

With the current landing zone rules there's no need for the kickoff to be where it is. The NFL could move it up 10 yards and so a DB could kick off.

no, you can still do them but only in the 4th quarter and you must be trailing on the scoreboard.
It would be a dick move to onside kick being up on points in the 4th quarter . haha .

Oh yeah , Jim Harbaugh is back in the league

At the beginning of the 3rd quarter Kenny MacIntosh caught the kickoff at the goal line. Had he let it go into the end zone untouched would they have spotted the ball on the 40?

My understanding is if it rolls into the end zone you must either run it out or down it and if you down it then it is spotted on the 20. If the ball goes into the end zone in the air then it can be downed and spotted at the 30 or returned. The only time the ball is automatically spotted in relation to the end zone is if it goes through the back of the end zone either in the air or rolling after landing on the end zone.

There are other rules but those cover the end zone portion.

I think the new rules will be a big source of creativity once the regular season starts. Doubt we will see much until then. My guess is TD returns will be up significantly.
