Justin Jefferson: "'We would've done better if Sam Darnold returned"

Adofo-Mensah was an interesting guy. The Vikings took a chance hiring him as GM. He's undoubtedly a smart guy, but he obviously had his blindspots as well. He went to Princeton and Stanford and had a masters in economics. He traded commodities on Wall Street before changing careers and becoming a cap expert for the 49ers.

That background--putting a lot of emphasis on numbers and quantifiable data--isn't enough to make you a good GM. It's not just Sam's numbers that you have to evaluate, but you have to be able to look a guy in the face and determine: Is this guy for real? Does he have the character that it takes to be a good QB? Do I ignore the fact that he has unanimous support in the locker room? Do I believe the critics who say Darnold can't win the big one?

I think Adofo-Mensah didn't have the tools to make those kinds of decisions. Unfortunately, I don't think Kevin O'Connell did, either. These are two men overly impressed with their own decision making ability, and not willing to do the work to get to the real heart of the issue.

I'm not even completely sold on A-Aron getting us to the Superbowl. It can't be overstated about the impact of and importance of the QB's attitude. Everyone with kids knows this to be true. Even those of us who work in high stress corporate offices know that leadership can make or break a team.

Geno & Rogers both have a tendency to absolutely MURDER team chemistry and morale in the heat of battle with their pouting and fingerpointing. Do we rally back and win against the LAmbs in week 16 if Geno goes to the bench, throws a towel over his head and pouts after each INT? Do we rally and win if Erin goes off on Riq after his taunting penalty in the NFCCG? I, personally, thank the LORD that we don't have to find out!

I don't know how old Jefferson is, and I don't know when he supposedly made the "doesn't see things working out" with the Vikings comment, but maybe he would save Seattle a draft pick that they could use for other positions.
