I voted 8 wins.

The defense will be great. Our schedule is filled with eak teams. We improved the offence's coaching and Zabel has to be an update over Tomlinson.

But Darnold and Kupp are no replacement for Geno and DK. The OL should be better but there is only so much the new coaching staff and scheme can do to improve Hayne, Olu, Bradford, etc... We'll be lucky if our OL ranking improves to 22nd or higher. Darnold will be under pressure most games.

Plus Kubiak's scheme is not new (many teams run versions of it) and a lot of defenses have it figured.

I think our defense will keep most game close but our offense will struggle to score. Wouldn't be surprised that we lose more games we should have won than win games we should have lost.
I voted 10 because of the weak schedule, but my thinking is basically this. ^^^

People keep saying "I don't see any reason why we can't"...but I'm not seeing any reason to think we WILL. Our receiver corps has been gutted and now bears a ton of uncertainty (and known health risk). Darnold ain't throwing to stat monsters like Justin Jefferson anymore. Everyone is unfamiliar to each other. The internal OL should perform better with NFL-standard coaching, but how much better? Maybe these guys are just bad.

Kubiak...bleh. The optimism is off-season koolaid. He's another OC retread in the same vein as Bevell and Schottenheimer - not horrible, but you need better than "not horrible" to do well in this league. His offense is nothing innovative or unpredictable. People having to bend over backwards to justify why he didn't make it with his other teams, is not a good sign.

Ironically, we probably fight our way to 10 wins through the Pete Carroll method: keep games close with good defense, minimize the burden on Darnold. We steal a few wins that way. But I really don't see anything special on this offense. I'd like to think some of the rookies surprise, but that's no guarantee. Success is going to go through the QB position anyway, and I just fear that we've got ourselves an Andy Dalton plus.

It's really hard to say because last year won't be a great preview for this year. I just have no idea how the offense will look.

Negative take: It takes the full season for the wide zone to click. The very green OL can't open running lanes, and with the running game not doing much the game is put on Darnold's shoulders. He doesn't have the same hero ball potential as Smith, and without a DK to keep defenses honest, the opposing defense smothers the short-to-medium game. The defense, despite the talent, is so exhausted from being on the field due to the 3-and-outs that they still give up lots of 2nd half points.

Positive take: This OL definitely has the athletic talent, and now that they have finally drafted IOL for scheme, the young bucks make the run game work. That lets the offense play in rhythm, and Kubiak is experienced enough of a playcaller that he takes advantage and lets Darnold play within himself. That tempo gives the defense rest and, especially with a year of Macdonald's scheme under their belts, they achieve their top-5 potential. Oh, and Murphy shows why he was the first defensive player off the board as DL often take time to develop.

I could see anything from 8-12 realistically. I went with 11 because I'm feeling good today. If I woke up in a bad mood, I could have gone 9 pretty easily.

While I agree with you on the defense and the offense could be top 10. Does it click for the offense week 1? week 6? week 11 like the defense did last year? at all? Those remain to be unseen for me.

If it clicks week 1, with this schedule I say 13 wins. If it doesn't at all I say 4 wins. I think the offense will start to click around week 4 or 5, at least see glimpses of it more consistently so that's how I came up with 11 wins. That and I threw a dart at a dartboard and that's what it landed on.
I was aiming for the 20 and got 11 too ;)

I said 9, and I think it's a good season if we get to 9 wins. It's a transitional year, and if we can maintain a winning record, it means we're on the right track. But in no way is this team a juggernaut that is going to get to 12 or 13 wins.

We have an above-average roster. As much as I like Macdonald, I think he's the third best coach in our division. Our QB is the fourth best QB in the division. How does this translate into more than 9 wins? I just can't see it.

Still, I'm more excited for this season than I have been for 2 or 3 years.

Under 8. Sorry, but I can see this team mirroring what happened to the Bears last season. I think the offense will be ok at the start of the season, but once opponents have seen it and there are 1 or 2 injuries it'll be a hard slog. 3-2 after 5 but 6-11 for the year.
Did you mean Saints?

The Bears were 4-2 at their bye week, but they finished 5-12. Once teams saw what the offense could and couldn't do they were neutralised. Fields threw the ball to the perimeter, (be it short, long, or wide), where receivers could react to the pass. He struggled when that was taken away and he had to go to the middle where accuracy and timing were critical. Only twice after Week 6 did they score 21+ points. They were held to 14- or less 5 times in that stretch.

The Seahawks offense is better than the 2024 Bears. However, they lack dynamic, big-play players. Long methodical drives are hard to build a season around without either a sledge-hammer running game or depth at receiver. Maybe the O-Line blossoms and Darnold shines. Maybe the rookie receivers can play like starters. Maybe the defense plays like a top 3 defense. At this point there's hope.

Okay, gotcha. I see what you're saying. I thought you were making a comment on how Kubiak's Saints got off to a fast start last year, then quickly went downhill.

I would agree that we're better off than the 2024 Bears. They had Shane Waldron as their offensive coordinator.

After reading some of the posts, it hinted at Kubiak as the single point of failure?

If we can shake our home field disadvantage, there is no reason this roster can't get 12 wins.
Never thought of it that way but you're right. We do real well on the road usually. Why not go back to throttling people at home like they're on fentanyl. Powerless to resist

I think Seattle's wanting to run the ball and take shots with Valdez Scantling and Arroyo .

They have Kupp now .

I'm glad they moved on from Metcalf. Not as easy regarding Lockett . I think he has at least 2 good seasons left .

I voted 13 wins in the July poll and I'm sticking with it. Time to reclaim the division, we are due for an up year.
