I've been pleased with Hill so far, but oddly I'm a little excited by this bad news. This situation could end up a blessing in disguise if Michael Brooks grabs hold of this opportunity. Don't forget about Jaye Howard either.

Preseason isn't perfect for talent evaluation, but Howard and Brooks have flashed more dominance than Hill has. Brooks has been like the Mayowa of our DT group: he looks terrific against 3rd stringers, but you wonder how he'd fare against starter quality players. Unlike Mayowa, Brooks does not look undersized or lacking in strength, so I think he's got a pretty nice chance of being a real find for us. But until they test him there is no way of knowing for sure. Seattle needs to find out if Brooks can handle himself against higher competition.

I agree. Bennett should be the starter at 3-tech even if Hill were to be healthy. Bennett is the best DT in that role. Brooks is doing extremely well and Howard has had spurts of good play. The Seahawks are deep at DT. The signings are to have some more healthy bodies at camp and plug into the rotation. I doubt that Silinga and Cherrington make past pre-season (unless they are "out-of-world" and/or injuries continue to pile up (hope not)).

When Hill and Irvin come back to play together come game 5 or thereabouts, opposing offense won't know how to game plan against them.

It'd be nice to have Alan Branch right about now. I don't feel like our DTs are any good outside of Mebane. Gonna be our weakness all year

Sounds like they're hoping McDaniel shows up big time. At 6'-7", I sure hope he does, too. http://mynorthwest.com/292/2338850/Seah ... y-McDaniel

I agree with the talk about players like Brooks and Howard now having an opportunity to step up / perhaps a blessing in disguise as Kearly put it. Brooks sure looks the part (but, I guess against backups. Still, he seems to show a tenacity that should be effective with the ones surrounded by other guys with that same tenacity. I could see him fitting into that role if McDaniel doesn't take it.) Did Howard even play in the Denver game? Clinton McDonald doesn't always get the press, but just when we forget about him - there he goes deflecting a pass or making some other contribution. I'm sure his inadequacies could be pointed out, but seems like a steady enough player if others don't step up. Also, perhaps his steady type play on the line is enough with that defensive backfield.

There's no mention of Quinn hoping Bennett would be that starter at DT. (Even though he's listed as a DE, I know he does kick inside sometimes.)

At this point, I'm going to go ahead and generally disagree with this opinion. It's too early to say that none of the bodies in camp are "no good" and the insinuation that Branch would be better than any of them. You're looking in the rear view mirror. You could easily say the same thing about Tony McDaniel next year, for example, if his production is greater than Branch this year.
We have yet to see McDaniel play, Brooks looks like a potential fireball there (now let's see him with the 1's), Jordan Hill will be a good player for the Hawks for a long time. Injuries happen. Doesn't sound like his season is over.
I can understand the talk of concern and fans wondering who is going to step into a role vacated by a plug and play guy last year. But, it's not like the team addressed that position with a 1st round pick (they said Hill - 3rd round - was the guy they wanted out of the crop of DT's this year.) There's not some player there going into camp that was said to be some super stud. I'll reserve judgement there until after the next couple of pre-season games and until after we see if guys like McDaniel, Brooks, Howard (et al) step up.

It's amazing that we have 10 DT's on the roster right now (if you call Howard a DT vice DE) and it's still a position of concern...

And the two players that cause the injury concerns are both rookies in Hill and Williams in relation to the hole at DT left by Branch. Branch was serviceable in our defense and did his role. It's not like we're replacing Warren Saap here. Every defense has some weakness and you can't be perfect. Any injuries sting but i don't feel the need to be talked off a ledge. I could care less about preventing rush yards so long as we're able to prevent TD's.

Turns out its a strain not a tear

RT @Curtis_Crabtree Pete Carroll says DT Jordan Hill has a strained bicep. Says report of Hill being out 3-6 weeks is not accurate.

Tore some muscle in my quad last year (2nd degree). Was told no running for 6 weeks but didn't listen, was runing/playing at 75% about 2 weeks later but couldn't run or kick at 100% for almost 12 weeks because i kept aggrevating it during my soccer training. Still hav e ahole and lump where he muscle torn. Muscle tears are no joke, only way he'd going o heal fast is to shut it down otherwise he will be nagging for a while.

Regarding Jordan Hill, Carroll said they are going "day to day and week to week" with him. Called reports that out 3-6 weeks "inaccurate."

That's a nice development. The team has an excuse to see their depth DTs more in the next two preseason games without having to lose Hill for the regular season to do it. Lucky break for us.

Regarding McDonald, I am so torn on what the team should do with him. He's basically Alan Branch with even less pass rush, but right now a poor man's Alan Branch doesn't seem so bad if we are talking about 1st and 2nd down run stuffers. I had just assumed that he wouldn't make our roster, but until another guy steps up as a viable run defending backup for Mebane, we are kind of stuck with McDonald. McDonald isn't terrible or anything, but he's pretty much an average backup surrounded by a ton of intriguing prospects with much higher upside.

I guess the good news is we have 2 games and a bunch of practices for these guys to make their case.

I'm concerned, and will monitor the situation with Doms' permission.

On the upside, we don't play too many run heavy teams this year...

But, yeah, this is not good.
