Joey Galloway Appreciation Thread

As you can tell, I am trying to spark a trend here and get fellow members to follow suit...

Perfect time of the year to celebrate our favorite legacy players...

Joey Galloway was a freakin' phenom. This skinny WR from OSU didn't seem like that big a signing until he got on the field. I have said this since he arrived in 1995 and I still believe it today: Joey Galloway is the fastest player I have ever seen on a NFL football field.

If memory serves, I think he pulled a 4.1 40.

Warren Moon to Galloway were things of beauty. Art, even. Moon had one of THE best arms in the game and Galloway had the speed to match it. Poetry in motion. What are your memories of Joey Galloway?

Know it doesn't always land here, but Alexander is an absolute favorite.

Koren seemed like a good kid that couldn't get out of his own way - not malicious, just not equipped to handle things

I was born in 88 and Galloway was one of my favorite players when I first started watching football. And yeah Moon had one of the best deep balls I’ve ever seen.

This guy is the reason I'm a Seahawks fan. He was my favorite Buckeye ever and I followed him into the NFL. I was very upset when the Seahawks drafted him because I was a HUGE Dolphins fan as a kid and really, really wanted them to get Galloway. Granted, the Dolphins were picking in the mid 20s, but I was young and didn't have much experience following the draft yet. Adopted the Seahawks as my second team after that, and somehow I ended up just transitioning to them.

I have an autographed jersey of him. He and Shawn Springs are the only Seahawks I've ever met, although neither played for them at the time.

Actually, I have mixed feeliing about Joey. I was out of state at the time, pre-internet, so it was hard to follow the team back then. Only saw the Seahawks a few games a year, usually when a California team was playing them.

I knew, however that he couldn't really play for Holmgren. Holmgren's WCO really didn't have a lot of use for a burner like him, so I wasn't surprised when they moved him. At least they got some serious draft capital for him, which helped build the Holmgren years, our best before Pete.

Technically, it indirectly got us Heath Evans and a center out of Princeton by the name of Dennis Norman too, because we traded down two spots with the Niners with one of those picks. I don't remember Norman, but it seems unlikely that he was worse than Evans.

If only we used that 2001 1st on Reggie Wayne instead of Robinson. Seahawks with their line back then with Alexander, Hasselbeck, and Wayne as your top target, it would've been unreal.

Oh, and I forgot TJ Houshmandzadeh was taken in the 7th Round. Hindsight is a bitch.

I appreciated Holmgrens comments when JG was holding out, running with a parachute.

But I LOVED when we drafted him. Fastest WR in the draft and it showed on the field. Sideline go routes were higher % with Galloway than any other Hawk WR I remember.

I was at that draft in 1995 and was absolutely clamoring for the Seahawks to take WarrenSapp. When they passed on him to Take Galloway, I was actually interviewed by a Seahawks news outlet that was there asking me about the pick and I said That I did not like it because I thought Warren Sapp was a better player. Obviously, my comment was not reported to the public.

On a separate note, he won me over during the preseason of his rookie year. In a game against the 49ers, he caught a pass and got absolutely obliterated on the play. Not only did he not stay down on the ground, but he actually flipped his whole body up in the air to stand up and then did a little look at me shimmy with his shoulders as if it was nothing to him. At that point, I knew he was different. Another ridiculously underrated NFL player.

Joey Galloway was extremely talented, but his exit here left a bad taste. To be fair to him, we all know how awful the 90's Seahawks were. We've all worked at toxic jobs that made our lives miserable, I can only imagine that's what playing in Seattle was like at that time. And, we rooked 2 1st rounders out of Jerry Jones so that softened the blow.

I remember from my seats 7 rows back about the 20 yard line. He shook his arse at the crowd and the cheerleaders before every punt or KO return. I hated those seats, it was hard not to just watch the cheer team. Best seats I had were on the rail in the 300 section.. right about the 45.

Back when this site was seahawks97 or 98.com I won the Joey Galloway signed picture giveaway.
If memory serves me correctly, it may have been the first ever site giveaway and I was excited as a kid on Xmas.
I still have that picture somewhere in my collection.

Galloway was fast. Really friggan fast.
