You mean the guy that looked like a deer in the headlights when he played at Quest field? Russell has never behaved like such a lost puppy...not even in game one when the Cards were bringing everything but the kitchen sink. Further, that was behind an OL that was far inferior to the Niners at pass pro.

I can accept that Kaep has the upside to be as good or better than Russell, but this ranking wasn't supposed to be based upon potential. Anybody could look good and advance pretty far as a team if they had a virtual fortress for an OL and excellent QB coaching (Alex Smith is exhibit A).

Yeah, many of us are homers, but some of us really exaggerate in favor of an opponent in a effort to appear objective (cough, cough!). Do you seriously believe we all think so highly of Wilson simply because we're 'homers?' Kaep only played ten games; Russell played 16. I've haven't yet seen Kaep put his team on his back, ala Wilson in Chicago and Atlanta, though I'm not saying he can't. Give them both a full season, so at least we're starting the comparison with some objectivity.

Everyone has their own opinion and of course we are going to favor our own team. But the talking heads are going to favor the guy that got the furtherest, and that's not unfair.

Remember the game against them you are referring to had a dramatic turning point. That blocked kick returned to make it 21-zip instead of 14-3 took the wind out of the ninnirs sails at that point.

But most people will take that kind of whipping as a mostly one time thing because the QB went on to the SB. You don't have to like the guy but should admit he went further than our guy.

Not saying this wouldn't have been a nail-biter had Kaep played all 16 games, but who's body of evidence is larger? Haven't read his reasoning yet, but I suppose he's favoring potential based upon physical tools? ...Or possibly the SB appearance with a very good team around him?

Exactly. Forget the fact they lost Goldston and Crabtree while we added Harvin just move along nothing to see here.

Chris Harper kinda reminds me a little bit of Terrel Owens (on paper) big strong fast guy, to team up with Harvin. If Chris pans out and Harvin stays true to form, that can be one of the better WR tandems in the NFL.

Hmmm. Went further than our guy? Our guy put his team in the lead with 30 seconds remaining...what more could you ask for? The 9er D likely would have made the stop to seal the win. Where in my post did I say I didn't like Kaep? You're putting thoughts in my head to support your own effort to appear objective.

K. Sat for a year too, learned the system and play book. Wilson did not , he even split reps in training camp. However I have no problem with where Jaws placed Wilson. It's just an off season discussion point we will have a better feel by mid season

LOL! Y'all do know that in media circles this whole ranking/rating thing is almost a joke? If a talking head/pundit wants more attention all he/she has to do is produce a 'ranking' piece and their name gets noticed and repeated.

We see these pieces almost daily now. The writers know people are going to respond, no matter what the rankings say. If your guy/team isn't rated high you're gonna bitch and in turn give the writer more exposure. Simple, isn't it.

Loafo, a lot of the rankings is based also on the players surrounding each QB. The RB's, TE's and WR's and O Line contribute to that ranking sometimes directly, and mostly indirectly.

I remember Montana's battles with Steve Bartowski, Bobby Herbert, Jim Everett, in the '80's - what determined the winner was the surrounding players, and not so much the QB's themselves. Between Seattle and the 49ers, these two teams have the best surrounding talent vs the Cardinals and the Rams. If you recall the famous sack/kneel down by Jim Everett - that helped Montana and the 49ers win that game. Jim was never the same after that game. That's what I mean by the surrounding players contributing to the Wins and therefore the QB rankings.
