It's just using the media to aid in negotiations. I never really place too much stock in what these guys, including coaches and FOs, say in public. I don't see a comment like that as being indicative of their heart. What they say behind closed doors, which are the words that actually count to the people doing the hiring, is more important than an agent released blurb.
Additionally, I don't get the vitriol towards players wanting as much money as they can get. The FO has the responsibility to spread it out to stay inline with the cap. Maybe normal joes think they'd give up $3mil/year to play on a winner have clearly never had to make that choice. I don't begrudge players for that. Guys are young and just got their ring, if they can get more money, they deserve that option. They can get cut at any time or end their careers on one bad play. It's a business as much as we passionate fans may think otherwise, it's a business.
