Trim the fat baby. Anyone saying Johnson wants to start from scratch, well, Seattle provides it in spades also, if they're smart.Combined with no cap? Yes.
The Seahawks are going to need to release many more starters.
Last I checked, they'll end up needing about 8 starters plus 8 rotation-type players and have around $45M in cap to do it. And that doesn't count improving their current depth to be better than practice squad level.
It's going to be a challenging off-season for JS and the new HC.

Adams, Diggs, Lockett, Dissley, Mone, Eskridge at minimum. Maybe Geno, too.Trim the fat baby. Anyone saying Johnson wants to start from scratch, well, Seattle provides it in spades also, if they're smart.
With a new HC and JS having to make some difficult decisions, I think it might be a bloodbath when it comes to keeping many of our players. It's very possible the new HC brings players from his previous team, which is not all that unheard of in the NFL. We have a few players are just overpaid and not providing the level of service for which they are paid. I think this next season, although many may not agree, the HC may cut many popular players to trim down the salary cap, some which will disagree with and question the motive, thus perhaps giving the HC a pass on the season results should they take a down turn in the win/close column. Speculation of course and just my view. This process isn't going to happen overnight and we are in for a long season ahead, but with me I'm hoping for the best expecting the worse type of mentality right now. Change is hard, nothing is guaranteed except death and taxes.Combined with no cap? Yes.

Already covering our basis for a 5-12 season, I see.I'm just fine with getting lean and young next year and building for the future getting our cap right
That would be the way to go, IMO. I sure hope you're right. With a new HC and JS having to make some difficult decisions, I think it might be a bloodbath when it comes to keeping many of our players. With cuts and two year dead cap splits, $20 million can be saved on Geno Smith, $17 million on Tyler Lockett, $12 million on Jones, $7 million on Dissly, etc. They have options and they'll carry costs over next year. The decisions won't be easy but they rarely are for any team.Over 20M in cap can be freed up by cutting Adams and either cutting or kicking some cap down the road with restructuring guys like Dissly, Lockett and Diggs, etc.
Btw, as much as I love these guys (except Adams), I'm just fine with getting lean and young next year and building for the future getting our cap right after overspending on free agents and bad trades so Pete could dream about his swan song playoff run that never happened.

We have had this same post three seasons in a row. The guys in the front office make a lot of money to make the money work.
