Is there anything tempering expectations/concerns going into the season?

I can confirm this resoundingly. ;) Even if I don't live there anymore.
Absolutely! For me the Western Montana part was Highway 200, Clark Fork River, Heron, Noxon, I-90, St. Regis, Superior, Missoula, with a couple middle school summers spent picking cherries near Polson and Kalispell near ice-cold Flathead Lake.

Glad I didn't seem to offend anyone by referring to Eastern Montana as "West Dakota". Just referring to the terrain, mostly. I have love for Eastern Montana Montanans too, and have family there, as well as for both Dakotas, North and South, my USAF son is stationed in N. Dakota but PCSing soon to Alaska to work on F-35s again.

What parts of Montana were your stomping grounds?

How can you be offensive when it's the truth? My in-laws are from Wolf Point, MT.

I put down $100 bucks to win 8.5+ games, $100 to make the playoffs, $100 to win the NFC West...they better not disappoint.
I like it! What odds did you get for those? And it's never too early to put down a benji bill on the Hawks to win the Owl.

Regarding the OP special teams is my current most worrying thing about our team. From what I have seen and heard so far all other aspects of our team are solid or better. Special teams seems to be our weakest link.
In the game vs the Chiefs we were far more dominant than the score indicates. But we gave up two TDs to kick returns that scored once and lead to a short field score the other time. So 13 of KC's 18 pt total score were due to negligent play by our special team coverage. Fixing that problem is a priority.
Absolutely THIS. The game was more of a beat-down by the Hawks than the final score reflected. Special Teams, kickoff coverage team, that was SCARY on nultiple occasions. Maybe that's what the NFL wanted, to add some excitement to the game? Also, I noticed Myers much different approach to kicking the ball, a few slow steps up to it rather than run-up, trying to keep it from going too far and getting "touchback" to the 35 yard line, IIRC. Major kudos to Jason Myers for making a saving tackle on one kickoff return.

My hunch is this also leads to cutting/trading MVS in favor of Bobo and Young, who both contribute on special teams.

Tempered till I see a game under fire at full speed and our rookies handling the speed and power, hoping but tempered till I see it.

Kalispell, for 25 years. I miss (four months out of the year of) it.

I think most pundits, experts, former NFL QBs (Tom Brady for example) would count the Hawk's chances with Geno at QB better, all else equal.
not after the awful season he's about to put up. Chip Kelly's offense is not Geno Friendly. Darnold is about to become the franchise QB. Watch.

I don't have any trepidation about game 1 but some bulletin board material never hurts.

I think it was pointed out that this comment wasn't recent.

He said it when he was actually PLAYING (with the Niners) so I get it.
