Is there an argument for Geno as anything other than QB5 in team history?

I imagine some would rank him above Zorn or below Moon, and I'm not sure which stance I would disagree with more, but #5 isn't really that debatable, is it?

5 is probably about right. Seems kinda strange a 3 year QB is that high on our history list. Shows how many duds we have lived through 😄

Ranking position players over multiple decades is meaningless to me.

Different eras with different rules and different teams over time.

But I do recognize fan attraction toward pedestal ranking.

Factoring in eras and trying to understand stats don’t translate very well I have it:

Russ
Hasselbeck
Krieg

Here is where it gets complicated for me

As a Seahawks quarterback, #5. That's all you can give him considering he started less than half of the games that 1 through 4 (Russ, Hass, Mudbone, Zorn) did.

Wish I had a button I could press that would've returned Geno to age 25 when he got thrown into action in 2021. I love his redemption story, but he could've been something real special if he were in the right environment from the start.

Everything we do on here is meaningless.

Good for you for being above such trivial nonsense though. I'll have to remind myself to write louder in future responses to you so you can hear them from your high horse.

It's really not that serious. I enjoy reflecting and looking back into the eras of Seahawks football I connected with fondly and learning about the ones I wasn't fortunate enough to be part of. The cross generation analysis can be interesting for some. I'd like to think that nothing about Jim Zorn's life would change if he saw that some fans on a message board regarded Dave Krieg more highly. It's just a thought exercise in an escape we share. None of this is a declaration of anything that matters.

But I recognize attraction towards being needlessly condescending.

Agreed. I think he'll become an inspiration for many. Flamed out early, career left for dead, and a punchline for an off-field incident with a teammate when both were young and immature. He re-set, learned under some experienced, well-regarded leaders in Ryan Fitzpatrick, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, and Russell Wilson, and when he got his second chance, he owned it. Most players given the bust label early never realize that level of success.

Regardless of my thoughts on his future prospects, what he has accomplished is phenomenal.

It is an unusual accomplishment for sure. I do believe it was his own immaturity that led to his initial failure though. He did have the talent and good for him showing it. He helped us through what could have been a disaster.
He far exceeded my initial expectations.

it really does matter where you end up. If he goes to a QB whisperer coach probably would have had a much different trajectory.

I'd say 5th all-time is about right. He hasn't played near the games as a Seahawk. But talent-wise, I think he is only behind Russ. I don't say that to put him on a pedestal, we just haven't had many QB's in the history of this org. Everbody has fond memories of Zorn, Krieg and Hass but they weren't great QB's. I remember the great plays by those guys too until one of the bone-headed plays that had you shaking your head. They'd get crucified by today's fans.

I don't disagree with that, but I've actually come away very impressed when I've dove into what Krieg accomplished in relation to his peers. I was not really expecting that and it makes me wonder how underrated he is for his time. That was before I was following though, and we know the stats don't always tell the whole story, so I could be way off there.

His stats are pretty good relative to his era. And his cumulative stats are impressive also. But it is a case of if you watched his career it was pretty much unanimous in the feeling that he could look like one of the greats and so terrible too. I know all QB's have some of that in them, but with him it was pretty extreme and very often. An enigma for sure.

5 seems about right. Who else could be fighting for that position besides Moon or Kitna.
