Clowney made $15M THIS YEAR. Seattle only had to pay about half of that as Houston picked up the tab on the bonus money, so that's what made him such a bargain for Seattle.
Unfortunately he is basically the only proven threat we have from the edge, so as others have pointed out opposition schemes to suppress his effect and therefore his stats don't look that imposing. That doesn't mitigate his actual influence on the game. Clowney is a standout talent. Had Ansah been able to produce as hoped our rush would have been an entirely different beast.

Every team has to look toward the future. If you look at this year based on what has happened, Ansah is gone, Clowney is a must sign because nobody else is even on the radar. Reed never came close to last year, maybe because of his suspension or maybe he's not as good as last year.

Thank you for posting some numbers to work with. If he is paid like the 15th best player at his position. I say, yes.

Too bad there isn't a stat for being mugged during the pass rush, he likely would be top 3 in the league.

Clowney is an unrestricted free agent and part of the trade agreement was a promise to NOT tag him.

Dude is going for $24MM+. He's getting more than Demarcus Lawrence. I'd say Lawrence is the STARTING POINT for Clowney negotiations.

NO he isn't. He's injured and has a long history of injuries. If he gets 20 he'll be lucky.

This year Zero...as in 0 , or for the impaired NONE as in he got no sacks

Those are games played in since Clowney's rookie season. So "long history of injuries?" Nope.

You'd take 80%+ snaps from any front line defensive starter.

The guy had microfracture surgery and bucked the odds and was able to perform after.

He has often been injured since then. Hard to say he can stay healthy and be reliable going forward.

How can you say he's been often injured since when I just showed you that he's played in over 80% of games since his rookie year.

If you're looking for a guarantee of Clowney or any player not dealing with injuries, that doesn't exist. But your premise of Clowney being injury prone or having a history of injuries is false.

Bottom line is he's been one of the most effective D-lineman in the league now for 4-5 years, and we certainly need as many effective D-lineman as we can get our hands on.

I shutter to think what this D-line will look like next year without him. It's already bad.
