The guy has talent and it has flashed throughout the year but his number 1 issue has always been health. He probably was nowhere near a 100 percent last night and likely needs surgery in the off season. He is going to want a ton of money. So if he is signed what would the deal look like ...or do you let him walk and we get that pick back? Thoughts? Not like guys like Clowney grow on trees and I dont trust our history of drafting at that position.

A lot of whether he re-signs here or not is on him. Part of the trade that brought him here, we had to agree not to tag him in the off season. If he likes it here and wants to stay, I'm sure John will work out a deal for him. He may have another destination in mind or he may just want to see what he can get in free agency and drive his price up. We will have to wait and see.

It was Clowney's choice to come here and he has not made it a secret he loves it here. I really HOPE he comes back, but sometimes piles of money have a way of changing the way folks see things. Clowney is a game changing talent.

Yes, I do think we offer Clowney a big contract in the off season.

Now are we going to match an insane 25M per year contract if another team offers him a Frank Clark + type deal? No, I don't think so. Too much injury concerns to break the bank for Clowney.

But yes, I do think we offer him a very fair 20-22M per year deal to try to keep him.

Im not in favor of an insane contract either. Unfortunately we have painted ourselves into a corner by ignoring it in the draft.

Our first round pick is a D-linemen.

You could certainly argue that we haven't been good at it after McDowell and Collier.............but we're not "ignoring" the D-line in the draft.

Different techniques. None are the Leo. I shoild have specified.

Collier didnt get many in college either. More run stopper.

These mega contracts suck..
I would pay Clowney where I did not want to for Clark.
Seeing is believing.

Are you kidding me, Clowney isnt going anywhere. You are right with the contract numbers. With next year Clowney being in training camp getting his core issue fixed in the off season yeah Seattle is going to pay like you said 20-22 mill a year.

I don't know outside of that one 49ers game has he been worth 20 million? Probably more talented then anyone in the league but Arik Armstead, Yannick Ngakoue, Chris Jones might be more productive for similar or less money. Signing Armstead would be taking from within the division too.

Do you see how many double and triple teams Clowney deals with?
I'd sign one of other guys to make sacks which should've been happening
anyway just because of JC.
He's a beast among men on that line.

We will pay him, he is a foundation player and you pay them. Clark was really good but not a foundational player.

Russ Wilson has been able to handle the "Multi Million" contact better than most players in the NFL. Can Clowney?
I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure that he will be offered a $15-17 million dollar deal.

What game were you watching? He barely got doubled at all...

Here is a recap of his pass rushing vs the 49ere. Note, no holding on Joe Staley's part and no double teams present like at all.

Two big injuries during his 6-year career. That should be a major warning to any team looking to sign the dude this offseason. He is a nice player to add to a defense, he is not the kind of player that you attempt to build a defense around.
