OL is the only thing stopping Russell from taking over the earth from a passing perspective. But...our OL as currently constituted (and referring to a healthy OL here)...and its ability to run block...I think makes our offense more difficult to stop than let's say Atlanta pass-pass-pass. I can't imagine how other teams feel late in games when they're down and Lynch is still ripping off big runs, in fact ripping off even bigger runs because the D is worn down.
Our line when healthy isn't *good* at pass protect, I think it aspires to be average, but it's good enough to win the SB I think.
OTOH, even though our identity is as a running team and our (healthy) OL can run-block pretty well, I still think spending some more capital on the OL on guys who can do both ZBS-for-run and pass protect is the better move. Our identity may be as a running team, but Russell being healthy is inarguably much more critical to our sustained success than even running the ball IMO. And even when the run game is going and PA is working, Russ still is getting nailed, so it isn't enough just to let the run-threat mitigate the crap pass pro.
It's not going to happen probably with Cable around. I think I can accept this if we can get some decent depth at the LT position, and if Bevell can stop going into 7-step-drop mode like he tends to do for long stretches of time. I only want to see big dropbacks off of PA if we're going to have a below-average-to-average pass protecting line.
