If a player is put on Ir before cutdowns, what is the team obligation?

Does the team just have to provide rehab? Or do their contracts come into effect as they are technically on the team?

If a player is put on IR before the cutdowns, he can't play in that season. He has to stay on IR until next year.

If he goes on IR after the season starts, he can come back in a few weeks time. It gets tricky. Teams will keep players active until after the cut-downs so they can go on in-season IR and come back, forcing them to possibly cut some players and re-sign them after start of season to fill in for players on IR.

Right, so are those put on season ending IR getting any competition with the team, access to team trainers, etc?

I'm pretty sure they get access to trainers and medical staff, though surgeries involve outside help, of course.

Still under contract and affiliated with the team. Not sure about the pay situation.

They are under contract at their regular salary, unless they have a 'split' contract which means a lower pay if on IR. For example, the guys who are already on IR were all minimum salary guys. Their IR salary is $450K instead of $750K. Also, if any of those guys are deemed fully recovered, they can still be cut from IR.

Seems like in the past there were more injury settlements, which meant the player got paid based on how many week they think he'd be out. The way he could rehab on his own and maybe catch on somewhere else sooner than later. Haven't seen that as much with the Seahawks, which tells me it's probably better for the player to stick it out with the team and get the medical help available.
