Fist, people yell about no sacks, now about a roughing the passer call. I for one welcome the call ! Sure one or two calls of this nature per game suits me just fine, seeing opposing QBs get up off the ground, haven to straighten up his equipment from the mauling in which he just received is a good thing, it keeps one eye looking out there ear hole.

Like Isaid, its a good thing and well worth the penalty which Robinson received !

Atta boy Alton ! keep up the good work my friend.

Cheers Chawker
Yep I’m with you! I knew it was gonna be called a penalty right when I saw the hit but I was pumped to see him lay out the QB, I definitely also gave an atta boy haha, watch Jimmy G’s reaction! He gets up wincing and holding his helmet in pain, how he hit the ground was what hurt him, he definitely had his bell rung. I loved it! That’s how you strike fear in the opposing teams QB, we need more of that nastiness :D

How about the BLATANT non-call on the facemask that gave the Niners a "touchdown" last year when the Hawks played out there? That literally handed them a TD and kept them in a game that the Hawks had in hand.
What did Niners fans do? They told us to get over it and/or acted like it wasn't a bad call.

Meh, the point I'm trying to make is that it goes both ways. Teams get calls that go their way, they get some that go against them. It happens, you need to overcome. This play had zero impact on the game. The Hawks outplayed them for most of that game. Excuses don't change it. I mean, someone claiming that Russ did some fake "dirty" slide to get drilled in the head is laughable.

Pretty damn ticky tack call. Let em play

You can have it back, but that call on Jimmy Ward hitting Wilson was worse.

Quite honestly, what passes for roughing the passer these days is maybe 20% legitimate compared to the old days.

You mean when he lowered the crown of his helmet and hit Wilson?? Sorry I disagree with the heightened focus on player safety I think that's exactly the type of hit there trying to eliminate. He dropped his head entirely, very unsafe for the defender to do.

My $0.02 is that leading with the crown of your helmet should always be called in this scenario. It's potentially injurious to both players.

The "jump to block a pass then bear hug and release the QB" should not be a foul. Leaving your feet to launch into the QB should be a foul but not to jump up to block a pass. Little harm can be done to the players in that scenario.

But some refs give some leeway and some are "letter of the law" types.

Yeah, if he jumps straight up to just block the pass, they may look at it differently. But if you hit that QB helmet, they are almost always gonna' call that.

Now don't get me wrong here, I'm a believer in fair play and not wanting to see any player getting injured.

But, if I was a DE and say it was mid way thur the first or second quarter, 3rd and 8 or more and I get a good jump off the ball, if I can't get a clear shot on they QB, say the OT is pushing me just past him, I'd reach out my arm and tap him in the back of his helment with a set of knuckles. Now I'd try to make look like a accident, and I might get flagged, and all you need to do is just a lite tap.

The effect of this is to screw his internal clock. Its like a good stiff jab will do to a boxer. For the rest of the game he'll be waiting for that loud pop, its very hard to re-group for that. Just say'in.
