Did you get this from the All 22 ?
If Rice is doubled up all game, it should be opening up things for the other WRs, but it's not. Are they bums then ? The TE's should be getting open, but they're not. If none of them are getting open, they're running nickle and dime packages, and we should be running more, but we're not.
So is it the QB not seeing the 3rd option being open ?
Is it playcalling ?
Every other team in the NFL doesn't have a getting guys open when their 1st option is doubled. Look at the freakin Bears; the Saints doubled up Marshall all game and Jeffries got 10 catches for like 231 yards.
Someone with better resources for scouting tell me then, what's the disconnect ?
I think all of the above are a factor, yes. And you failed to mention a conservative QB who rarely throws except to wide-open receivers in single coverage. That's something we saw with T-Jack as well and it has me thinking that it's one of PC's mandates to his quarterbacks. Play it safe, don't make a lot of dangerous throws, and if there's nothing else available, run. Which is why he got a running QB.
We're 2nd to last in the league in passing attempts. 27 per game. That means that most traditional cost-to-benefit analyses of Rice's production need to be scaled accordingly, and I just don't see anyone taking it into account. Instead, all I'm seeing is the usual armchair popcorn-throwing over appearances from one play (the Butler pick).
However, one thing I learned from defending some of Ruskell's picks is that it's up to a player to silence critics. Rice is on track to fall short of his yardage and reception totals from this same team last year, so that's not good. I wonder what might happen when Harvin gets on the field.
