What would you put the odds of Simon being our opening day CB opposite Sherm versus Bmax?

I don't remember where, but one of the Hawks sites I visit said that Simon had been used in the slot in college. If so he could be challenging Lane for that spot.

Judging from Quinn's comments on KJR, sounds lIke Lane's is taking command of the nickel corner job. Sounds like he's doing really well.

I kinda figure it doesn't matter who wins and who loses. Both are going to end up having to play at some point regardless, and the competition is preparing them for that eventuality. Its great to hear Simon holding his own, however, and the athletic ability shown in the stills of his pick over Kearse is pretty enticing.

Sherman coaching the heck out of him sounds enticing as well. Richard and RiSHARD is a deadly coaching combo. Sherm can pick up the discussion where Coach Richard stops. Talk about complimentary.

Yup. I'm 'guessing' Maxwell and Lane are ahead of Simon by a large Margin when it comes to any starting jobs in the secondary.

Can't we be patient ? Can't we even wait until the end of Mini Camp next week? Final cuts aren't until the end of August.....and a lot can happen before then! Until then...we're just guessing. We could put up hypothetical posts every week......like, What are the odds that Richardson plays in the first Regular season game?

No, we can't, because we want to talk about the team. If you think it's too early for speculation, you could always just not bother to speculate.

On topic, I was thinking this same thing, and I even mentioned it. I Maxwell is solid in man coverage and can create turnovers with his ball punching skills, though, and Coach Carroll values turnover differential more than anything else.

I would say, barring injury, Maxwell wins a camp battle 99% of the time at this point. If Maxwell loses, however, I would be excited to see how good HT must be to beat him out.

I'm already very excited about Jeremy Lane. The emergence of Tharold Simon further bolsters our depth at CB.

Our backups in the secondary-- Lane, Simon, Shead, and Johnson-- could be big time players on most teams.

Well, I'm reading a lot of assumption that Maxwell won't get better.

In all reality, he's at the end of his rookie season in terms of playing time on the field. Maxwell could, and probably will get better. If Simon beats him out, he's going to be damned good.

Simon ran a 4.47, and has incredibly smooth hips for a guy his size. I don't know what Maxwell ran but I'm assuming in the 4.4s. I also read Max's hips were a bit stuff until he started doing yoga. This might be the most interesting camp battle.

I'm starting to believe that our backups in the Secondary, are better than most starting Secondary's that are playing in the NFL right now.
I think it's a safe bet, that we won't be seeing much, if any of a drop off, (God forbid), should we have an injury.

^ This. And before putting him on the 53, I'd tell him to find a better nick name, too.

That's a .net given nickname, sir!

It's beautiful! Like Backpack Rich for the 2014 2nd round pick.

If he performs well, I think he could pass Lane as our slot guy. But, his chances of passing Maxwell aren't that great right now.

Same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns.

In all seriousness, anything is possible, but Maxwell is awfully damn good and it would be a huge shocker to me if Simon was starting over a healthy Maxwell in the opener.

About as shocked as the amount of people who think there are curses because of a video game cover.
