He's quickly becoming my favorite analyst on radio due to him having the cahones to call things as they are.

On the last play, he says that if Russ audibles to a slant, it's an easy touchdown and win for us. Is Russ afraid to throw the slant to win a game?

"Appallingly bad football by the Seahawks. NO tried to hand the game to Seattle on a silver platter & the Hawks didnt take it." - Hugh Millen

I enjoy listening to him also.I would much rather listen to him or Brock break down the Xs and Os than listen to Mitch talk about his kids or calling 867-5309 just to see if someone has the number.

I think if Brock broke that play down people would comment how his experience makes his opinion valid where Millens personality just turns people off.

If he had the grasp of the game that he pretends to, he'd have been an all time QB, and gone into coaching.

C'mon, lots of great players weren't cut out to coach..........and lots of mediocre players have made great coaches.

These two things aren't connected at all.

Now Millen to me is the human equivalent of watching paint dry...........but him not being a great NFL QB has nothing to do with his football IQ.

Dilfer is also a great analyst, but wasn't a great QB.

You can understand the game and grasp it just fine. Now do it with 300 lb guys running at you full speed and get it all right in under 3 seconds. Then throw in athleticism on top of being smart. Some guys can't process it quick enough, but can analyze tape all day long.

Perhaps you are referring to his amazing analysis of how the Seahawks D had no chance against the all time great Denver Offense in 48, or the fact that he thought Krapper would be mentioned right up there with Steve Young and Joe Montana in the 49ers pantheon, or....

Some players understand the game, but can't coach because they don't know how to teach, they usually end up in front office roles. Ozzie Newsome comes to mind, along with several scouts.

Some players don't have a total grasp of the game, but can go into coaching because they really know how to teach. They make great position coaches... but the problem is, they usually fail as Head Coaches because of their overall lack of knowledge in all facets of football.. (Mike Singeltary is a good example).

Some are both and make amazing coaches.

Some look good on TV and have a good speaking voice... so... Trent Dilfer. ;)

That's my story, and I'm sticking with it.

If you listen to him analyze tape and break down plays, he's great. The problem is, he's in the media. These guys get paid to know the game, but also be entertaining and interesting. If a guy picks what all the other guys pick, he's boring. They want controversy, stuff like that so their media stuff is sometimes tainted that way.

And Dilfer is one of those guys that likes to be right a lot, so I'm not defending him. But he's a good analyst even if he did get the Superbowl wrong (a lot of other people did as well....record breaking offense against a very good defense. We hadn't set records and weren't thought of as historic until after that game).

Lots of opinions in this thread, just have to say I respect Millens, Huards and Holmgrens. To the RW die hard, can do know wrong, suck it up. RW is human, just like Millen. Millen however was in the NFL for much longer than RW has been and his opinion carries more weight than any poster on this sight. Being but hurt because of his initial thoughts on RW is just childish behavior. He would have said the same thing about Rick Meyer back in the early 90's and you'all would be trashing him after the first season, then year 3 rolls around and you would disappear. RW's success has nothing to do with your initial commitment as a fan to him. He was barely better than Flynn. If TO wouldn't have dropped that TD pass, RW might still be sitting on the bench.

That's how things happen in the NFL.

Millen clearly knows football, there's no doubt about it. That being said, the way gets worked up gets a tad annoying. Easy for him to say from the couch. He obviously had a VERY hard time accepting PC as coach and RW as the QB. Was butt hurt about the Mora(n) thing for quite awhile.
Also, after the draft, he starts whining like a 5 year old if the team doesn't pick who he wants.

He can really break down a play though, so I don't mind him. Just gets too worked up imo.
