I believe one of the first things Greg will be doing is bringing the Nimitz into the sound so we all can "tailgate" in style! I'm sure the brass will sign off on it!

Congrats CMC that is a huge deal. Thanks to you, and everyone else for the freedoms we enjoy! Even the freedom to complain that we are to loud and have an unfair advantage at the CLink

Congratulations Greg. So for us civilians, is Command Master Chief the head guy on the boat?

When a carrier is parked at Puget Sound Shipyard, the reserved parking spots, starting with the closest one, are: CO (commanding officer), then XO (executive officer), then CMC (Flying Greg), then all the officers in charge of stuff. So he's an enlisted guy who's considered to be more important than almost every officer - a big deal, and a role reversal. In every other case, the lowliest shave-tail ensign outranks any enlisted.

I've got a lot of air miles off of the USS Nimitz. CAG 9, HS-2 1988 West Pac, 1991 West Pac. AW1...Congratulations Flying Gregg.

Dude, I was an AW3 in the VP Navy based out of JAX. :th2thumbs:

A Per Diem-3 guy, cool. 10 years in and now almost 20 years since I got out, the AW mafia is everywhere.

Wowsa!! Does that mean he's the commanding officer? (don't know military rankings all the way) .

CMC on a surface ship is the Senior Enlisted onboard. On Submarines it's the COB (Chief of the Boat). From a former EM2(SW) that did 5 years on a carrier (Lincoln) and then 7 doing various jobs at Bangor and in Guam fixing Subs.

I'll be looking forward to the invite for the Steel Beach Superbowl Party Master Chief and congratulations shipmate.

That is fantastic buddy. Command chief of a floating city and one of the most technological things the world has ever created.

So it's similar to a Master Chief Petty Officer or a 7 stripe Sargent (Master of the Universe)? :)

Congrats, Greg! I was with HS-12 for my first hitch. We did 2 deployments aboard the USS America and a short run on the Enterprise. After that, did about 10 years in various P-3 squadrons as a Flight Engineer, then closed out my 20 years in Japan with E-2s, then AIMD.

Very happy for you, but I'm not envious of your new working ours (All day + whenever you get called, which will be often)! You must really love the meat of the job, so that's a perfect match!

To adequately describe what this man's duties are would take a looooong post and I'd probably still be missing things. He will be constantly be doing a balancing act, and the job takes incredible organizational skills.
