Indeed. I think the Hawks should win but I can't take that to the bank. It's not realistic to expect them to go undefeated and they are playing a solid team on the road.

Cushing concerns me as much or more than Watt. You can run away from Watt. Cushing is another matter. Here's how I look at it (so my stomach stays OK). This O faces the best defense in football, every day of the week. No we don't have a Watt, but Watt's not practicing against RW, either. I believe we will be fine.

I aw an article talking about a wrinkle in the read option that doesn't block the 3 tech, I remember chip Kelly running it at Oregon when it was clear they couldn't block fairley

If Carp is playing better, we need to man him up on Watt and run right at him. We're going to get some negative plays, but the best way to neutralize a good pass rusher is to run right at him.

Unfortunately, Watt isn't the typical elite pass rusher. He's not an elite speed guy like Aldon Smith. Better minds than mine will have to figure this out.

He could certainly give them some trouble in a variety of ways. Batting down passes for sure too. Wilson vs. Watt is a big height differential.

Not too worried, JJ Watt is a monster, who looks like a cop.

I think it will be layered approach. Roll outs away from Watt's side, quick short passes and a good ground game. By a good ground game I mean run it right him. Instead of allowing him to come at you pull a guard and have a blocking back right behind him. A bunch of misdirection stuff.

Carolina D is much better than Houston and we survived. We will know if the offense clicks we will win comfortably, bit if the offense is slow, it will be a grind win.

This will be the biggest test for our O-line all season, IMO.

Watt is no slouch. He will be a monster against our O-line.

The key is figuring out how to keep Russell away from him.

We've had this exact topic already.

I think you neutralize him by running straight at him. You put two linemen and a lead back at the point of attack.

What you don't want to do is make plays that are in his vicinity, but not right at him. He will slide and make tackles behind the lead blockers... you either want to run away from him completely, go way outside on his side, or run right at him.

Read option is actually one of the less desirable things to do... it allows him to not think, and typically doesn't put enough people at him to keep him from flowing.

Screen pass -- hitch pass -- TE down the seam -- those are all pretty easy and should be more or less automatic given how many good receivers we can put out there.

I see a lot of play action passes with Coleman and Lynch blasting Watt, and Wilson tossing short passes on a roll out the opposite way.
