"(Seneca) Wallace came away from his experience with the 49ers and coach Jim Harbaugh feeling jilted, telling the Des Moines Register the team brought him in just to leverage backup quarterback Colt McCoy into accepting a pay cut."
Seneca is now Rodgers backup in CheeseLand, BTW.

Umm no. Teams bring in camp arms all the time and teams leverage players in contract negotiations all the time. I believe they brought him in, in case McCoy was traded or if he wouldn't have lowered his contract. Its called insurance. Its called good business.

This is true. But I like to think of pro football as more than a business.

It was still a shitty move by Harbaugh when he claimed Seneca was retiring.

WTF Harbaugh

This is the kind of thing that maybe already has (Harvin) and will cost the Whiners free agents. We've seen several instances of Pete and John doing right by a guy. This is not doing right by a guy. It CAN be a business with a human side Hardouche.

LOL. Harvin was not a free agent. Had no choice where he would go. We wouldn't of given up our first rounder for him.

I agree in a sense that I think PC is a better people person.

But come on. No football player is going to look at the 49ers and say, "you know what, I don't want to be a part of that environment"

This report says that Wallace told the 9ers he was retiring. I get the feeling he knew he was being messed with and said get me out of here. I have no proof of that, but I kinda get that vibe.

That's ESPN taking what Harbaugh said that Wallace told him he was retiring when in fact Wallace himself said he wasn't retiring. I don't blame Harbaugh for bringing in competition because that's what all coaches do including PC. I just don't like it that it got blatantly obvious for the dude that he wasn't making the team, he could've at least gave him a more realistic shot as messed up as it sounds.

Most messed up thing is that even if Wallace told Harbaugh that he was retiring(Wallace claims he didn't), it's still not in Harbs place to tell the world that "yeah", he's retiring. It should've been up Wallace to disclose that information however he liked although it came out that he actually wasn't. Rubs off the wrong way.

I read a little more, and have a clearer picture. Thanks for the input. Still think it sucked the way it all went down. IMHO Wallace is a good dude and I'm glad he found a spot. I hope he does well. Prob have a better chance of playing in GB anyway. Ole what's his name is getting kinda fragile.

That is why Pete announcing that Winfield was retiring seemed out of place. That should have been on Winfield. So if folks are giving Harbaugh crap for announcing Wallace's decision to retire, which now is known to be incorrect, then the same applies for Pete.

Didn't Pete only confirm Antoine's decision? Seems to me that the back story isn't the same.

Didn't Carroll do the same thing with Winfield? Just sayin...

Edit: nevermind. I don't know about the sequence of events. It doesn't really matter.

I don't have a problem with Harbaugh. He was kicking the tires. Some may say "so and so" didn't get a fair shake and they may be right. In the end its up to the player to put himself in a situation to succeed. Thats why I don't get the hate about Harbaugh/Harper. He didn't make our team, we could have kept him, he just wasn't good enough. Just like Lockette. This isn't a first. EJ Wilson?, Durham, now Harper. We cut 4th/5th rounders if they can't cut it.
