The defense wasn't worse when McDougald and Thompson started at safety along with Griffen, Coleman and Flowers at CB.

It wasn't as terrible as it is now but it was definitely bad. Thompson couldn't cover either and therefore they were forced to start Lano Hill. This is what led them to be in the state they are in. Furthermore, they weren't very good last season with Griffin at CB and Adams was missing for part of the season (or playing hurt when he didn't miss games).

LoB had 4 DB's, this Defense fields 3 with a Linebacker.

Which is what surprise me. Why did Pete sell the farm for Adams when he clearly didn't fit the scheme that won us a Lombardi?

The scheme that won the Lombardi wasn't really working anymore. It can be carved up easily without superior talent. Half the league copied it in the coming years.

Jamal is a talented guy. He's playing sloppy on a defense that collectively is crapping the bed. He needs structure, but he's one of the best down safeties in the league and, contrary to popular belief, has put elite coverage skills on tape before.

I think he'll play better when they all figure out what's going on and how to fix it.

Better corners would do a lot to fix it, and that’s where all the capital and cap we gave up for Adams works at cross purposes.

I think Adams can be a helluva player but for what they invested they almost need him to, in his own, make up for other shortcomings.

Not a realistic expectation of any safety, which is why I think you don’t give up what they gave up there.

Hope I’m wrong and we upgrade corner somehow and Adams turns into what he was with the jets. It just frosts me that we take so…damned…long to figure out how to use players we give up a ton for. It’s borderline inexcusable if I’m being honest; you can’t win consistently if you’re going to hamstring your drafts and not see benefits for years.

(We saw benefits with Adams last year blitzing that didn’t amount to much overall defensive improvement, and this year we aren’t even having blitz success)

I get where you're coming from. I think they figured out how to use him well last year. People like to speak ill of his blitz frequency, but if other teams could get 10 sacks out of a DB of theirs, they probably would.

But yeah. The impact has not matched the capital given up, and this team needs a reload. Given the chance, I'd prefer to just have the draft capital back.
