So, when's the funeral service for .NET poster GoldenIsThyTate? I'm assuming he couldn't live with this news.

That's why you never name your SN after or buy jerseys of any player that isn't:

a) the franchise QB
b) a retired legendary player on your favorite team

A...so true (looks at my screenname)

This pisses me of like no other. Offense just took a step back. Don't like this at all.

I know, and it's even worse because now free agency is over and we don't have any draft picks this year.
just what I want to do, rely on a rookie instead of a guy that has proven to be a key cog in this offense.

This is a bummer, but I understand. Loved Golden and what he did for us.

Quite frankly, I think some of you guys are just trying to make yourselves feel better about the loss of Tate with some of this crap.

We just lost a very good receiver who also happened to be an elite punt returner. Sorry guys, but that is not easily replaceable.

YES he is. Considering the fact we are getting Harvin back. If Harvin gets injured again and is out for the season then I will be worrie.d

I think this is relevant to our discussion here.

From Bill Barnwell's column today:

In a way, Dallas’s inability to keep Ware reminds me how destructive a lot of the contracts we saw on Tuesday can be in terms of a team’s planning. You never want to cut a player as talented and productive as Ware; it’s a blessing when you draft and develop a player of his caliber, and while there’s always eventually going to be a time when you move on from a player, it shouldn’t be when he is 31. The problem, of course, is that Jones can’t help himself from locking up mid-tier player after mid-tier player, creating deals that ruined Dallas’s salary cap and forced it to sacrifice Ware in order to field a 53-man team next year. The Cowboys didn’t cut Ware because they thought they could spend their money better elsewhere. They cut Ware because they already misjudged Roy Williams, Gerald Sensabaugh, Jay Ratliff, and Ken Hamlin, and the dead money from those deals created cap emergencies that forced the Cowboys to pay for their mistakes at some point in the future. This is the beginning of the future. And while we don’t know who will fail in their new digs yet, a number of teams in this league will have to move on from true superstars in the future because of the mistakes they made in overpaying players today.

I think this is why you don't give Tate 5/30 w/ 12M guaranteed and instead let him walk. I want this team to, you know, keep winning Super Bowls, and you can only do that with as many elite players as possible.

Good for Golden. He got paid and I imagine he'll rack up some big numbers in Detroit. I'm disappointed he's no longer a hawk but I respect his decision

Preach on, brutha. You have my full agreement. I like Tate, but I figure he can be replaced. I am kind of excited to see who we get. While Tate was a big play waiting to happen, and his big plays may have won us a couple of games last year, I would like more consistency from his position. A guy who can post up in the middle with some mass. John, you have my attention.

I love that our front office is fiscally responsible. I know that will be painful at times, but the Raiders had to start the hell over recently because of fiscal irresponsibility. I do not want to go through that, ever.

Gotta put my 2 cents in. But geese la Weeze, Gold Tate !?????! Just after the super bowl, we all heard that could happen and Ta Ta, it did.
Who, of our great ones do they still want to sacrifice???
I just wonder what negotiations went down w/the Seahawks FIRST. Why couldn't they meet the $$$$ deal? Ya know, these guys are going to regret these moves. Red Bryant to FLA. !!! I lived there, the humidity is enough ta kill yaz! Can't break the contract to come home.

I JUST WANT TO CRY!

Very well put there...didn't the old Seahawks always manage to keep our middle tier guys?

I will say abundantly that if he was going anywhere, this was the place. Burleson is gone - he will fill that spot nicely. Lots of protection because of Megatron. And oh, by the way, he's now in the same geography (plane-wise) of his hometown (Hendersonville, TN) - and a short flight from Notre Dame. https://goo.gl/maps/Cr12V

Damnit... I was a huge fan of his YAC athleticism. Color me bummed. I really thought he'd be back.

Good for him, sad for us.

That's life in the NFL. He's gonna drive Green Bay fans nuts.

I am curious as to why it was so imperative to sign a guy who amassed 8 catches in the playoffs? If you sign Tate, you can pretty much kiss Baldwin goodbye. Tate is not a difference maker because in our run happy offense he didn't catch the ball. If you want to argue his value, you could say he was an effective punt returner but he never did return one for a touchdown and that is because he lacks break away speed; elite or above average corners shut him down. Now he wants to cry about it in Detroit. Ok Golden, defenses will be looking for your a** now that the Lions have no running game so he will be a bigger factor in defensive game planning.

Maybe I am wrong but not one defensive team suggested the key to stopping the Seahawks was to contain Tate??

There's a lot of things that are wrong with this post, but this one stands out the most. This is such an unreasonably arbitrary way to determine someone's value as a punt returner. Nevermind that Tate had at least one TD called back by a phantom penalty this year, but his averages and multiple clutch, game-swinging returns in games against the Bears, Rams, and Buccaneers (off the top of my head) speak for themselves. He was legitimately elite at the job.

Was he?? Or was he the benefit of great special teams blocking LOL. This is a man who had a whopping total of one touchdown at home all year. With the defenses keyed in on Marshawn, Tate had many opportunities to catch the ball in space and yet he couldn't take it to the house in any of his opportunities. Other that the Rams, I don't remember any real deep pass patterns where Tate exploded down field behind the defense. His offense was centered around catching balls in 8-10 yard patterns and making guys miss with his quickness. Why in the world would we need a Tate when Harvin is faster and much more dangerous in the flat. You need a burner to compliment him and beat defenses deep, especially since Harvin is going to garner safety help.

We didn't play the Bears this year LOL. Baldwin took on to the house against Denver in preseason and he almost returned one against the 49ers. Our special teams blocking was outstanding. I suggest you research your statement before sounding naive.

This is the most ironic post of the year already. Wow.

This team is not afraid to play its rookies in key positions, so you've relied on rookies before and you'll do it again this year...and you'll probably find that it works out alright.

Tate turned Hawks offer of 5 yrs $35M with $17.5M guaranteed instead elected to accept Detroit's offer which was abit lower of 5 yrs $31.25M with $13.25M guaranteed. Very disappointing to see him leave. At least that frees up some cash.

Golden Tate is on 950am right now. He said the Seahawks offered him less. He then cited how the Seahawks rewarded Red Bryant and Clemons then cut them two years down the line. He said he deserved more money and didn't want to get cut two years down the line like Clemons and Big Red did.
