Golden Tate is on 950am right now. He said the Seahawks offered him less. He then cited how the Seahawks rewarded Red Bryant and Clemons then cut them two years down the line. He said he deserved more money and didn't want to get cut two years down the line like Clemons and Big Red did.
he's not wrong for worrying. Take the higher guaranteed money because nothing is a given in this league.

Good for him, sad for us?

He's the one moving to Detroit. If I had the choice between 4 million / year plus Seattle plus Superbowls vs.5 million per year in a shitehole where 3 players get 50% of the salary cap I know what I would choose.

Honestly - like the 5 years in Detroit will ever complete. And in Seattle I'm wearing 3 Superbowl rings and I'm a HOF candidate.

Of course, I'm a little biased.

Man it's dusty in here, it feels like a freakin' breakup. I think he was disappointed he couldn't stay but sometimes it's best to move on. That said, don't care what uni he wears, he'll always be a Hawk in my eyes.

Good luck, GT! We thank you for your service.

I am going to go out on a limb and say his stats are no better than his last year with us

Exactly. He'll still probably get cut a few years down the line, that's just the way things go. But he was smart and right to take the bigger $$.

I don't blame anyone for taking more pay for the same job, but it's not like Seattle is the team that signs people then cuts them. ALL teams do it, including Detroit. I'd bet a lot of money that he never sees the end of his contract in Detroit. He'll eventually get cut just like most players do. I'm glad he's getting his money. I wish he'd have stayed because he's so much fun to watch, but he's not irreplaceable.

Enjoying a life sentence in the Clink.
Only way this was going to be a real low blow (for me) was if our low offer led him to :49ersmall:.

As a Lion I can still say I loved his on field persona, wish him well (until Hawks v Lions), and enjoy the highlights I'm sure he'll be putting up with the surrounding weapons in Detroit.

Fact is, if Clem and Red's play hadn't declined they wouldn't have been cut. If he's not confident in his play continuing at that level, then I can see why he didn't sign.

That's very logical IMO. I suspected that Seattle's offer wouldn't guarantee him anything more than two years. I'm guessing the Detroit deal has a much higher guarantee and will be structured in a way that ensures he's there for at least three years. He also has an opportunity to establish a new value for himself in a pass heavy offense with Megatron.

Tate turned Hawks offer of 5 yrs $35M with $17.5M guaranteed instead elected to accept Detroit's offer which was abit lower of 5 yrs $31.25M with $13.25M guaranteed. Very disappointing to see him leave. At least that frees up some cash.

No hard feelings from me. He said he got offers from the jags, jets, and 49'ers, said there was NO WAY he would play for SF, gotta respect that.'loved the guys effort on the field AFTER the first couple of years, he seemed to be coasting his first couple of seasons but after that his effort in all phases was A+. I like the guy and wish him the best except for when he plays us. He leaves us as a champion!

What I don't understand is all the talking heads on ESPN Kiro etc saying OMG who will replace Tate. DUH Percy Harvin will replace Tate. We didn't have him for the whole year so Tate had to be the #1. Percy will be our #1 we don't need to "replace" Tate, we need to bring in more receivers to compliment, Harvin, Baldwin and Kearse. In Pete and John I trust.

Wow. Not stunned by the move, but surprised to hear Tate speaking negatively about the franchise. Loved the guy and I am definitely bummed by his departure, but FFS, GT, this team was very good to you. It's not like you were a quick study, hitting the ground running your rookie year. This franchise that apparently alarmed you, groomed you, developed you and positioned you to become a rich man with a SB ring to go along with that.

I always argued he was more Hines Ward than Steve Smith but I won't make that argument again.

Yeah but, who now will replace Harvin? If we are going to put all of our stock in the health of Percy Harvin, things could get bad...fast. Looks like we are definitely going WR in this draft, after all.

Well sad to see him go, but it's all about the guaranteed dough. Likely he'll be cut 2-3 down the line in Detroit, too.

Glad I didn't listen to it. I think it is fair for him to say we offered him less but criticizing the team for cutting ageing veterans? Did anyone mention to him that Nate Burleson was cut this past year in the waning stages of his large deal so that Tate could sign?

What a goof.
