Am I wrong? We have not really tried to spread things open with many deep passes lately? (last 3-4 games) as we have in the past? RW is very accurate in the green pasture land, and our receivers quick and sharp. Have we been keeping this weapon under wraps for NOW?

I think all we did against the Cards was run and then try and pass deep. It didn't work out too well

As it is in most NFL games, each team will "test for weaknesses". Each DC and OC will be looking for single coverage...underneath coverage, ect. and try to get "good matchups". We fans are hoping for another mistaken prone Saints team. It may not happen ....even with our "superior firepower"... aka Percy Harvin, we may struggle to keep ahead. I just hope that we can score on our first drive of the game.

Why does the nba not play 6 5 guys at center even if they are good rebounders?

Sure we throw it deep, but it's aIways that gimmicky back shoulder lob, which is a great tool, but If you abuse is by using it all the time rw will start getting picked A LOT. None of this is rws fault, we just don't have a single payer on the roster that can high point a football.

I understand though, our wrs are amazing, I'm an idiot/dont watch football ect ect...

The deep ball is the preferred counter when defenses stack the box and play single man on the outside. That is what teams have been doing to us lately, so of course it makes sense that we would try to exploit that man coverage down field. The Cardinals game was the lone occasion in which we have not been able to make a defense pay for that strategy and that was not a result of lack of trying.

I think the majority of this forum discounts how well Patrick Peterson played against Golden Tate in that last game. Tate won the match up the first time in Arizona, but Peterson won the contest in Seattle. That was the key to the game for Arizona and why their strategy paid off.

In comparison, the Saints secondary is arguably their weakest link. Their left CB and nickel CB both suffered season ending injuries, along with one of their backups. Keenan Lewis is pretty good at right CB, but he is coming off a concussion and I suspect Ryan will continue to play him on the right side rather than sticking him on Tate all game.

I don't totally agree though. While I do agree that we probably need another long tall reciever in the rotation (and in our defense, we have a very good one on IR right now) I don't agree with your take on the back shoulder throw. I think the back shoulder throw is something a good quarterback does to put his reciever in the best position to make the play, recognizing who he's throwing to and how the defender is playing him. If it's a tall reciever like Sid, or a guy with the 6th gear who can get a step like Lockett, we've seen Russ place the ball completely different.

Right now it's a tool that's working and we're wise to take advantage of what's productive; use it until they prove they can stop it.... And that's the thing with things that start to work, opponents eventually start to take notice and start to cheat a bit to counter it. You're right on that. But when they do start to cheat, that's when the smart QB (and I think we have one of those) puts up a different ball to take advantage. And where I really disagree with you. I think that our recievers are more than capable of taking advantage. Tate and Baldwin, while not exactly on the same tier speedwise as Lockette or Harvin do have enough speed to get a step and a half on a guy who's blatantly cheating toward the back shoulder lob. I think Tate has proven, while not on the same level as say Megatron, that he can and has gone up to win fights for a jump ball. So has Kearse, and Lockette is showing some real potential in that regard as well...

But really, right now, against the Saints... I don't think it's an issue. Their secondary is decimated and if Rob Ryan is as predictable as I think he is, he's going to sell out to contain the run again. I'll take any of our guys in 1-1 coverage against the practice squad scrubs+Roman Harper that are going to be out there tomorrow.
