Going away from the fullback: the next tough decision

The handwriting is on the wall. The next tough decision may be with Lynch. (Not this year but next). Big contract, lots of wear and tear on the body, drafted his replacement.

Lynch, Rice, and Miller and others better be ready to restructure this off season (I think that is a fore gone conclusion to everyone in today's NFL)

I think Thurmond is safe, he's too much of a freak athletically to let go. His upside is unreal, I think this year he will finally get to show the 12th man and PCJS what he can really do.

I can see it. Sure would make Winfield regret not taking that 3M from the Vikings. Still, do you really trust Thurmond to stay healthy all season? That is the million dollar question.

I understand, really I do. I'm as emotionally attached to the Seahawks as I am to my family, really and sadly. Robinson came when Pete did, was hear through it all. Its understandable why you feel that way.

But, this is new territory for all of us.

Chances are we have a legit, Top 5, inevitable champion QB. With those types, you load the offense up with new and cheap parts, because the QB makes them, they don't make him.

Patriots, Saints, Giants, Indy & Denver, now Flacco, all have their "favorite" and most reliable offensive weapons shipped our or cut. Yet, they keep winning.

I just posted the same in another thread. We need to win now if ML is going to win a SB with us. I want that badly.

Between ML, Rice and Miller....I think keeping Miller is most crucial to what we are doing. I think Pete will want to move (the contracts of) both Rice and ML. That money will likely be spent on the D side of the ball.

It worries me. Then again I was dead wrong about Wilson last year but I was spot on about how phenomenal our defense was going to be.

I just worry if we are acting more like a team that lost a SuperBowl than a team that is knocking on the door and potentially about to win one.

Remember a lot of those teams that lose SuperBowls and go on to make big changes afterward to "fix" things never end up making it back.

Often the reason for that is they so substantially change key parts of the team to "get them over the hump" that the team is hamstrung. Things like tying up massive amounts of money with a splashy free agent signing that never works out, or completely changing an offense or defense, or removing key cogs to team success.

These guys so far have made some spectacular personnel/scouting moves in the draft and so have earned a lot of benefit of the doubt. But there are a lot of teams that were on the cusp and probably would have gone on to win it all that rolled the dice and made some bad moves that kept them from every reaching the same levels for years.

Some of these moves have me scratching my head.

It seems to me that what I have read about how the feel about Robinson being cut has more to do with his movie making rather than his performance on the field. Kind of like voting for a politician because he or she is a good person rather than what kind of a job they will do while in office. While Robinson did his job well we have to consider if that job is even needed to the extent that his salary is worth it. I admit I am not that interested in the "Real Rob" production so my only consideration is his on the field worth. I like him as a player but I'm not sure the offense needs his skill set to the tune of $2.5 million. If JS and PC can get him back for less money then great. My fear going down the road is that we may lose some very good players of need due to the salary cap. I have no qualm saving money where you can.

Don't know if we keep Ware, Harper, or who, as a result of this, but assuming we keep at least 1 of the 2...

MRob is 30, so we get 1 more decent-but-overpriced season out of him, and it costs us losing a player who could give us 4 years of service for a song, at $400K or whatever Ware or Harper get. Maybe he gets hurt, maybe his performance drops off from overall wear and tear. We don't know; roll of the dice. We do know that it looks like both Harper and Ware have potential to be at least as much of an impact player as MRob.

It sucks, but the numbers made it almost inevitable.
I say this just means PC/JS are really excited about the young (and cheap) talent they've brought in and are planning to roll with that, that it gives them a better/nearly even chance to win now AND clearly better chance to win in the future.

Good points but we are basically just tailoring the team to the strengths of our QB. Natural progression. I think.
