They were a top 10 OLine overall with the 2nd best pass block win rate in the league.

"The Vikings’ numbers against the blitz looked a little worrisome (54.3% pressure rate; last), with Sam Darnold holding the ball for nearly three seconds (2.93; second-highest in the NFL).

Minnesota’s OL was better relative to the league when not facing the blitz, ranking just outside the top 20 in pressure rate (34.1%). This is further contextualized by a second-overall ranking in PBWR, which shows this line was better than the raw pressure and sack rate numbers showed — they were just being asked to do it for longer than most teams."

In the last 2 games, against the Lions and Rams, Sam got sacked repeatedly. The Rams sacked him 9 times!! But in the end, it doesn't really matter. Given how shoddy our o-line is -- and has been for years -- any QB we stick back there will get killed. This is a major failing of the Seahawks front office.

Every place I looked says Vikings offensive line was rated way better than Seattle for the 2024 season.

Pff: Vikings 13th, Seahawks 29th

Pro Football Network: Vikings 9th, Seahawks 30th

NFL Lines: Vikings 15th, Seahawks 31st

I've made similar posts, including sources as well, but apparently we're going to pretend like the Vikes OLine really wasn't all that much better than ours in the name of defending Sam Darnold. Pretty weird stuff imo.

Even good OLines don't hold up all the time. Maybe Darnold taking the 2nd longest time to get rid of the ball in the league contributed to all those sacks in the last 2 games?

But in the end, it doesn't really matter. Given how shoddy our o-line is -- and has been for years -- any QB we stick back there will get killed. This is a major failing of the Seahawks front office.

Yep. Completely agree, and it's a major reason I don't want Darnold. Can't hold on to the ball for 3 seconds behind a terrible OLine.

I like Dart but he is hot or cold. Can be great one game, miss everything the next.

But Darnold on this team would be a flaming disaster.

Geno was not perfect, almost the league leader in interceptions, but under pressure he produced more than he failed. Darnold is good when things are steady, but he falls apart easily and he wilts under pressure.
Our OL was horrific, you had to expect jailbreaks, but when the line held....Geno hit home runs. When the line failed (often), Geno often escaped and found his guy anyway. Whether we use Howell or Darnold, in the rare moments our line protects well - those guys are likely going to expect failure and miss the opportunity.

That doesn't even count the games that Darnold literally just falls apart (see Viking playoff game for example, and that was WITH a good OL and WITH one of the best WR corps in the NFL).

We have an OC that can't keep a job, an OMG at QB, and what looks like no viable starting WR outside of JSN. Count in our starting RB who makes Shaun Alexander look like a bruising RB by comparison, and things don't look great. But then again, few, myself included, thought Geno would be as good as he was (except Carroll obviously).
Thats under the assumption though that the oline doesnt improve. I think it will (wouldn't be hard hard)

I like Darnold. I just think he had outstanding offensive weapons we don't quite match. So I'd rather go young and develop.

I just wanted a new QB so I won't complain this year about QB unless JS does something exceedingly dumb (like signing Kaepernick/Daniel Jones/Jayhawk Mike) I didn't complain once about our Coach last year after wanting PC gone for so long. Oh, I'll hot take in the game day forum about a decision or too but that's not real criticism just heat of the moment venting. I would like a rookie there somewhere though developing. I am not a huge Milroe fan but he is interesting but whoever. I like the rookie contract window approach.

Geno is getting a long term contract, while Russell is unemployed.

I can't imagine it's a huge contract that doesn't have an EJECT button somewhere in there. Then again, the Raiders have a habit of giving people hundreds of millions of dollars contracts and then cutting them loose after a year or two and eating all that dead cap. Kinda what they're known for now.

I wish Pete the best, but if this deal with Geno doesn't work out, holding on to players too long will be his down fall. Pete hasn't done anything for that franchise so I doubt he will have alot of leeway.

Yeah…considering his cap hit and really poor play in the red zone, a third rounder is huge for the Hawks. Geno Smith isn’t a franchise quarterback caliber player and is one of the worst in the business under pressure. He had the luxury of one of the best receiving corps in the NFL and just wasn’t talented enough to take the team to the playoffs. Sam Darnold on the other hand has high end arm talent and is seven years younger than Geno, makes better decisions and can play well within the system. Darnold would be a huge huge upgrade over Geno “got knocked dafuq out” Smith.

Tom Brady believes in Geno

I am going off the limb here but I do think Brady knows a little bit more about about the QB position then the Geno Haters on Seahawks.net

We've all been waiting for him to turn the corner and it never happens. He is who he is and I can confidently say that Tom is wrong. He'll find out soon enough.

Hard to imagine Tom sees Geno as a long term solution. If they really do give him a long term contract then wow. Just, wow.

Geno was good at $30 maybe, maaayyybbbeee $35 million but when he was asking $45 million time to cut bait. I wanted Geno back because, while I’m not a fan of his, last year wasn’t all on him. Had hope under Kubiak he could be better and he was our best chance to win. I think in the long run it’s the right move. Get what you can and pivot.

One possibility is MM seems to be in JS’s ear about roster. While their intent was to keep him they couldn’t go above their price. JS probably felt this team was a contender and MM possibly gave him a reality check and said we’re not that close. Let’s take a little step back now to move this team a little closer to a sustainable run.

I know MM has very adamantly said Geno is our guy but he has his hands in the roster construction and I have to believe the whole team came together and made this decision. I’m good with that. MM will have his identity he desires.

I dont know where the number comes from. Could you show it please? Was it a lot of incentives which that last game was all about in my eyes? Thanks.

Condotta reports that John's offer was 2 years 40 million. There was no counter offer from Smith's camp. Instead, he requested a trade. Smith probably wants Stafford type contract. 4 years, 40 million. Will the Raiders pay that? Will see.

But this indicates that Geno sort of forced their hand. JS and MM wanted to keep Geno at a reasonable price.
