They were a top 10 OLine overall with the 2nd best pass block win rate in the league.

"The Vikings’ numbers against the blitz looked a little worrisome (54.3% pressure rate; last), with Sam Darnold holding the ball for nearly three seconds (2.93; second-highest in the NFL).

Minnesota’s OL was better relative to the league when not facing the blitz, ranking just outside the top 20 in pressure rate (34.1%). This is further contextualized by a second-overall ranking in PBWR, which shows this line was better than the raw pressure and sack rate numbers showed — they were just being asked to do it for longer than most teams."

Because Fields is a year younger with 4 years of ever-improving stats, and Darnold has been in the league for 7 years and his only decent year has been on a loaded team throwing to Justin Jefferson.

Tomlin named Wilson the preseason starter and there was pushback removing Fields once he was healthy. Darnold was let go for JJ McCarthy, a guy who's never thrown an NFL pass coming off a knee injury.

Fields is going to demand a salary in the $7-9M range. Darnold is going to demand $40M+.

MM has said time and time again he wants to play complementary football. He doesn't want to throw it 50 times a game. He would rather run 30 and throw 30. Look at how Baltimore has looked for the last 20 years. They are not putting up 50-burgers every week and yet they are the 4th winningest franchise over that same time period.

I was fine with Geno Smith staying on as QB, my biggest grievance with him is he wouldn't leave the pocket, and when he ran he'd flop instead of using his athleticism to avoid contact and pick up more yardage. Fields will make you pay when he scrambles. I respect that.
With those numbers and parameters (Fields under 10M per) it sounds like a intriguing option, but a lot of ifs & maybes. The problem is its a commitment that could/would hinder any other option(s). I don't like the thought of hitching our wagon to Fields for a couple years & having another QB they are afraid to yank at halftime or bench mid season.
I do like Fields & a small contract better than Darnold and a larger contract though. Either way. I think Howell and a draft pick or two are a better option.

Yeah super frustrating, I’m just hoping that stuff calms down but I fear at the first sign of adversity they come out of the wood work and say “I told you so!” Just like they did with Macdonald early on.

Guess what's gonna happen the second Geno has any sort of struggles at all in Vegas.

Come on man I’m actually talking to one right now and you know that with Montana. At least try to be honest with this stuff. I’d also argue you bordered on calling him elite. Just own it. Keasely and knownone one, have flirted with it as well.

You’re probably right though, the only noble people in this debate are the Geno supporters lol
Way to prove his point. It is hard to post in here when there are posters that will beat down a point with multiple posts (in a row even), instead of being open to dialogue.

Been lurking here a long time and don’t recall seeing anyone call Smith elite. But he is a good quarterback that has the respect of his teammates (and apparently the GOAT).

For the record, I think it is a reasonable decision to move on from Smith instead of giving him a long term contract at $45 million. I would have liked to see what Smith could have done in Kubiak’s offense. It’s too bad they couldn’t have gotten it done at $35 - $40 million.

I love it! Geno was good but not great. He was causing problems with a new contract. Now we can get a championship QB in the house. It will be fun to watch the Raiders next season.

Weaker team right now for sure but depending on how they would have structured it to get out of the deal I am not sure if good I would have felt about committing over $40M / year to Geno in a multi year deal

Tom Brady believes in Geno

I am going off the limb here but I do think Brady knows a little bit more about about the QB position then the Geno Haters on Seahawks.net

We know who Geno is. Love Geno as a person, and his story is pretty amazing, but at the end of the day he's not going to get your over the hump.

Either Pete was heck of a snake oil seller or Geno Smith is the second best bridge QB in the current market
He might be exactly that. I don’t think it was a smart signing to sink that much into

im not going to keep arguing it as someone literally called him elite the past couple of days.

There is now chatter DK wanted to leave in part because of Geno so not sure all his teammates feel that way? I don’t even hold that against him. It’s common for guys to not get along.

It sounds to me like you're just manifesting the narrative early on and like you're going to take any criticism of Darnold or hindsight praise of Geno as "coming out of the woodwork."

I know multiple posters who literally would stop posting during stretches of Geno playing well only to return when he faltered. Again, the same thing all around. Super frustrating, as you describe it.
Wow, people NOT complaining when he did well and complaining when he didn't? What a concept especially since message board are about 90/10 Complain/Compliment. And you think it is just a Geno thing? People often come here to vent.

For all of the things Geno did well, he had some glaring holes in his game. His struggles in the red zone and his turnovers were just too much to overcome. Love the dude, and will definitely be rooting for him and Pete, but JS was smart not to extended him for what Geno was asking.

Jay, this exact point you're making could be made first to the post I was replying to. That's the point. I'm literally saying the same thing you are.
