“I had no idea how fast he was. I had no idea,” Freeney said in an interview with Mike Costa and Judson Richards on XTRA Sports 1360 in San Diego. “By the time I got after the bull rush, I’m looking for this guy. He’s like 5-3, 5-4, whatever he is and I can’t find him. By the time I find him I was like ‘oh, here goes a sack.’ Next thing you know, ‘oh, no’ and I’m chasing him.”

“He’s definitely a load. I’m glad I’m not in that division,” Freeney said.

Pretty cool that Wilson is still opening people's eyes.

I cracked up when I read '5-3 5-4' - Freeney is hillarious.

I took that second quote to mean "I'd rather play against Peyton Manning than Russell Wilson"

It couldn't mean anything else right? (Well, apart from the fact that he gets 2 games a year against sackmaster Alex Smith)

Makes sense, Russell is the best QB in the league, maybe ever.

Dangeruss has this uncanny ability to stay just out of reach of defenders or step right our of their grasp. It is astonishing to me how casual he is about it every time I see him. He has to be the most frustrating guy to go against for D. It has to be so embarrasing for defenders to literally be wrapping their arms around air where he was just at and/or falling down like they just made the tackle only to find themselves laying there all alone while he zips around them in a flash teasing them. At first, I would let out gasps and oh no's......now I just sit there point and laugh as I lean into the cuts like I am playing a video game.

Every time I see Russ make pass rushers into fools, I laugh my arse off cause all I hear is the Benny Hill theme song.

This is a bit much but give him another year or three and you'll probably be right on track. To be honest he reminds more of Tarkenton than Young if I had to pick.

Best part of Benny Hill was when his wife was laying into him, and he'd go off for a long time and do his thing, and he'd come back, and she'd still be jawing at him. Not knowing he left.

This is a pretty good statement. Tarkenton wore out defensive lineman over the course of a game. Young used to evade the initial rush. Tarkenton and Wilson might dodge 3-4 players on a single play.

Defensive players hate scrambling QBs so its no wonder they get a bit carried away on the rare occasion they get a clear shot at one.

Thus the underrated advantage of a "short" QB.

Yeah as long as a QB can find throwing lanes (which Wilson excels at) and has a high release point with his throwing motion (which Wilson does), than being short has an advantage because you are harder for defenders to find behind all those huge linemen and you have a lower center of gravity compared to the people trying to hit you.

It is an advantage that few people ever mention, but it is real. The problem is that so many short QBs are not good at finding throwing lanes or have a lower throwing motion so they are never good enough passers for their advantage to matter.

I think I read somewhere that even taller QBs have to find throwing lanes--they still have to pass over outstretched arms of D linemen. Thus finding "lanes" avoids the batted ball. This is also why Wilson has very few balls batted down.

But to counter this point...it has been discussed in the past that Wilson has long arms and actually has a release point of a taller QB.

Yup, which is a huge reason why I believe he is and will be more successful than any other short QB. He has long arms and huge hands. Teams that try to find the "next Russell Wilson" may miss this fact and it could hurt them.
