Geesh…

The national media must be very down on Darnold. 21st for a team that barely missed the playoffs? Zero doubt that losing your starting QB is a huge deal, but Geno, although good, made a lot of red zone mistakes and was never considered elite.

I agree with @SoulfishHawk , that these mean nothing, but it is the offseason and it’s something to talk about at least.

What’s interesting to me is it feels like all the ratings accentuate all the departures we had, yet never considers the additions.

Besides Geno, last year saw…

DK being massively under utilized.
Tyler finally turned the unfortunate corner after an epic Seahawks career.
Oft injured starting RB.
Atrocious red zone play calling.
Serious issues at guard.

Yet we still almost made the playoffs.

So this year we add a QB who won 14 games plus address many of the issues listed above. Yet, it seems none of the moves we made to fill the holes matter to the pundits.

Oh well, it will make getting into the playoffs even sweeter.

But now that Geno is not on the seahawks - he is considered nearly elite. They have at #10 IIRC. Ridiculous.

I could give a flying bleep what these national mediots have to say about our whittle team tucked way up in the Pacific Northwest. Outside of our glory years of championships and perennial playoff contending, we've always been the red-headed step child of the NFL (no offense to red-headed step children intended).

Take the over, make some money and laugh at them all when we are playing mid January football.

I've come to realize that this is going to be the theme all summer because of the unknowns about our offense. It'll all reset after the first few weeks of the season anyway.

This is something I guess I never really thought about until recently (usually I don't pay attention to last season's last place team, but this time it's SF). When it was 16 games, you had all common opponents except for two (so 2/16). Now that it's 17 games, it works out to be (3/17). That's a pretty significant difference. I guess that would be another argument to go to 18 games because you could just add another full division into the rotation.

"Why the discrepancy? Strength of schedule. No team enters 2025 with an easier slate than the 49ers, who not only get to face the NFC South and AFC South like the rest of their division, but also the Giants, Browns and Bears due to finishing last in the division in 2024. In comparison, the Rams must face the Eagles, Ravens and Lions as part of their first-place schedule."

Does that seem about right? We barely hold off the Cards for 3rd in the NFC West. We get a fairly decent draft pick (about 12th) if we end up 21st best.

  1. 12s, attack the messenger, fire at will. This is the .NET tradition!
  2. Major upgrades:
    1. OL, finally, it can be what it is capable of, now free from geNO.
    2. QB, 12s knew Darnold is a major upgrade from geNO.
    3. WR, 12s knew that DK is an underachiever and quit on the Hawks.
    4. OC and running game, we have a an OC. that likes to tun the ball.
    5. Another solid A++ draft, all 12s knew that.
  3. Cultural change, we went from Pete's lah lah to John Schneider's.
  4. Full support from the ownership, Jody just loves her some John Schneider.
  5. Unparalleled defense, top 10 in his first season, with upgrades on roster, we ain't accepting anything less than top 5.

I wouldn't get upset about guesses. Honestly, the team is worse this year than last year on paper. The WR corps got dissolved, a new starting QB that had one good season, and a new OC among other staff. Who really knows? The team could be underrated greatly and come out smacking other teams around, or they could actually stink. Nobody knows? Just enjoy the season when it comes.

I was on record for never having a problem with Geno as a transitional starter, but I'm sick of the narrative that he's somehow that much better than Darnold. Their red zone stats sum up my feeling:

Geno: 27/56/211/10/5/60.3

Darnold: 62/88/395/26/4/100.1

Darnold is an upgrade.

It's strange but predictable. When Geno was here, many Seahawk fans were like "He's a top-10 QB" and the media was like "No, he's not". When they traded him, the media is now like "They traded a top-10 QB..."

I guess it gives us something to talk about. Sort of. Can't wait for the season to start...

I humbly beg to differ; only a handful of Geno Smith fanboys claimed that Geno's a top-10 QB.

I actually think articles and predictions like this have value. They can be a good motivational tool for the coaches and players. It's not like the modern day player and coach is unaware of such things.
