So much talk about which WRs will make the roster. Over the last few years very few WRs who get cut at this time of year are picked up by other teams. Even more interesting is how few make is more than a few weeks on the active roster of their new team.

Great but it only takes once.

There going to roll the dice with Jazz hitting the waiver wire. Hopefully he's not picked up I don't know if he'll clear waivers or not but he's the best WR prospect I've seen a team cut in a long time, if they cut him and all indications are he will be.

New England already picked up Darboh but he failed his physical . So if we cut Ferguson would they claim him I guess we'll see.

New England picked up Darboh off waivers LAST September and then we reclaimed him after the failed physical.

That only shows that we are good at cutting WR's that aren't very good and keeping one's that are. I'm sure if we had cut Baldwin or Lockett, they would have been playing for other teams.

As long as we keep to that dictum, we should be fine.

NFL rosters are generally too tight for teams to keep other teams projects on an active roster. That's why you don't have to worry about Ferguson. For another team to pick him up they'd need a place him on the active roster. That's a important spot to put a rookie who needs development and can't contribute right away to special teams.

If we cut Ursua, he's likely going to stick wherever he goes. That's why he makes the team and Ferguson doesn't.

I think Ursua over Jazz is the right move. Jazz can be PS and if anyone goes down we bring him up.

I think you guys think too highly of Jazz. He's a raw unproven WR with some baggage, that's not who gets picked up after final cuts....especially at the WR position.

It's go time, teams want a dependable proven WR with NFL experience that can come in and quickly pick up their offenses and schemes. That's who gets picked up on the waiver wire right before the season starts for teams to round out their rosters, and there's usually a LOT of those type of WR's available after final cuts.

Jazz is exactly the kind of WR you can sneak onto your PS.

Yeah, it's insane to me to keep Malik Turner or Keenan Reynolds. If we ever need a JAG receiver, there are literally hundreds to choose from.

Agreed. Every team has a Feguson on the tail end of their roster. Although I'd like to keep him, he's not ready right now.

I agree. The fact that they used 2020 draft capital to move in and draft him tells me they like him. A lot.

So do I. For all the hype and angst over finding tall WRs, there always seems to be a spot for a small guy that can get open downfield. Ursua looks to be that guy.

Couldn't agree more. Ursua is the one I'm hoping sticks. He just seems to have something that Jennings and Jazz hands may not have.

One Season, granted against lower competition but that's a lot of targets and catches in any league.

I don't think there are a lot of teams that have players of this nature stashed on practice squads. All he has done is show up for us in pre season so far and taken advantage of the opportunities given to him.

It seems most likely that Ursua is one that sticks.

Not merely that I want him to. But looking at the WR options and what roles are available.

Seattle needs a slot receiver. Not that Lockett can't play the slot. He can. But he also played a lot of outside receiver too. And Lockett had some of his greatest success on plays where he didn't play the slot.

Seattle should very much like to retain that kind of flexibility to scheme Tyler outside occasionally as matchup dictates. Seattle can't do that unless they have a good slot alternative. Really Seattle has just Ursua and Jennings who fit that role.

I'd be very shocked if they retained Jennings over Ursua at this point.

WR is a pretty easy position to stash players. Most teams have 6-7 in camp that they'd like to keep. Ultimately losing the 6th or 7th best WR on your team doesn't really impact your team. Every draft seems to produce more WR talent than the league needs. And next years' WR class looks like it will eclipse that of 2014.

Aside from one singular practice, what has Jennings done this entire camp to garner a spot on the 53? What type of praise have you read by coaches touting this guy for anything? Most people have this guy pegged as guaranteed on the 53 simply because he was a 4th rounder. They’ve cut a 4th round WR before. Why is it that folks think 4th rounders are cinches but 5th rounders are frequently on the bubble? (ex. BBK, Shaqueem)

The compete mantra was supposedly about disregarding draft status or lack thereof and simply evaluating on talent, performance and projection. Ursua has clearly earned a spot. Jazz is indeed raw and hasn’t done much the last 2 games but in the red zone, I would think even now he would be a viable commodity, especially with Metcalf out. Even Reynolds has shown more the last couple years than Jennings has thus far.

Perhaps Jennings is one who needs PS time to develop—and isn’t the point of this thread that we shouldn’t worry about any of our cut receivers being snagged?

Counter intuitive comments from Pete here . . .

(On if he needs to see something from his receivers with an injury to David Moore) “It would be really nice to see Gary [Jennings] and John [Ursua], get a lot of play time, and Malik [Turner] and those guys. Everybody’s got a shot to play in this game, everybody’s in the rotation so yeah it’s important for John. I know enough about it right now, that it’s going to take those guys a while. They’re not fully up to speed, they both missed time, just John and Gary for instance. They both missed time. It’s a harder position than you think, there are so many intricacies to it. We’ve had young guys where it’s take them a while. It’s rare when the young guys really play well early. I think DK is different from the other guys we’ve brought in here, it just seems to come to him naturally. Other guys struggle with the detail a little bit more.”

Wow. So he says DK just gets it and it has been hard for Jennings and Ursua... Seems like Ursua has massive innate skill and getting open is just easy for him.

Pete doesn't hide from the truth often. COuld this mean he doesn't have the faith in Ursusa like we seem to believe?

Sounds like locks are:
Lockett
Brown
DK
Moore
