If Seattle and Grubb can master the screen pass plays (Carroll never could), Shenault, can definitely be the benefactor of it.
I'm under the impression that the shortcoming in the team's screen pass game was Russ (pun intended). I literally cringed during every screen pass play for fear it would result in a Pick-6. The ball just seemed to float in the air far too long.

We did not have the personnel to be effective on screen plays... QB and O-line alike.

Over/under 1200 receiving yards for DK this year guys?

I say, health dependent, over. Grubb will get him moving around pre snap, setting up some good 1 on 1 ops.

He just really needs to work on fighting for those contested 1 on 1 jump balls

I gotta wonder if Bobo makes the team. I loved his game in blocking and clutch plays when given the opportunity. He may have some trade value verses a cut. I really hope it's my drugs that are talking here.
I think Eskridge is a camp body and will be cut. I too like Hayden Hatten but he'll probably make the practice squad but as I recall he has great hands and shows a ton of courage in YAC.

Tyler is 31 years old, not 51.

I expect Tyler Lockett to have improved stats from last year.
Now, Geno doesn't throw the huge yardage moonballs that Russ used to, accounting for decreased avg and longest receptions.

Having said that, new coaching should realize though that more than any wide receiver, Tyler catches pretty well every ball thrown to him, and more so when it's 3rd down and needed. i expect he will get lots of targets.
It'll be the cap hit that will get him rather than ability. If JSN balls out why do you need to pay an aging Lockett big money essentially. I love Lockett but it's a brutal league where teams are always looking to go younger and cheaper.

Everything i've heard about Bobo is that he's a wonder at practice. Coaches love him for that. Chip Kelly praised him for it, claled him the best practice player ever. I think that will land him on the roster at least this year.

I agree, but Lockett is "Mr. Seattle" and I believe loves the city and area. He just restructured so he could stay. He played well last season but he was getting dinged up more than usual last season too. I think he'll remain at least through this upcoming season unless Russ convinces Shitzburg to give up too much in a trade., (Unlikely)

I don't think Lockett would leave the area, more likely does a Doug Baldwin and gets out while he still has some health even though he likely would have something in the tank still.

Well given Bobos height we may actually use him as a advantage in the red zone and a first 3rd down receiver in a mismatch with shorter DB's, something we never did really even with Graham.

Hope he has 1400-1500 yds and 14 tds. That can land us a solid trade. I like DK, but paying a WR 35-40 mill, is crazy. Especially when WR talent in college just seems to be getting better.

You're right. It seems like we never try to take advantage of having taller pass catchers. Whether it was Graham , Bobo, or really even DK. Our jump ball game has really been a disappointment.

I often wonder how WRs in group 2 get snaps and targets.
Grubbs runs a 4 vert offense so the third and fourth WR are kind of important in a lot of formations.

So Bobo might see more snaps this year if he is the clear #4 WR.

Bobo is a great story but needs to transition in a TE in my opinion. His ceiling as a WR is about where he is now.

I'd like to see LS as a WR/RB combo. Almost as a poor man's Deebo Samuel that also returns kicks. He should be our 4th RB and 6 WR all in one.

It certainly does seem true about the WR talent that's been coming out of college most years of late. Even the cream of the crop WR's, Tyreek Hill, AJ Brown, aren't immune to being moved. Mike Florio reported that the Vikings were trying to trade up for the Chargers #5 pick to acquire Malik Nabers and then trade John Jefferson for a haul and not be on the hook for the contract they ended up putting on the table for him.

DK's not near in the class of a Brown, Hill, Jefferson, or Chase. I don't hear anyone talking of him as being in such elite company. He's good, but not 30 million+ good.

DK needs to show he can do more then run and catch, he needs to show he can shed coverage and catch the ball in stride more and in crossing patterns. We know he is fast and strong, but can he be reliable and clutch.

Not at his current weight, to be a TE, Bobo needs to pack on another 40lbs. But that 40 lbs will add another couple of seconds to his 4.99 sec 40 time.

For whatever reason, DK running away from CB was few and far in between

I see DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Jake Bobo as roster locks.

Past these 4 it will depend on special teams participation, who can make it to the practice squad if we cut them, and who can play the X receiver if Metcalf needs a break or gets injured.

Based on that I'd say Laviska Shenault Jr and Dareke Young get the 5th and 6th spot. The other guys would have to win a KR/PR job (Eskridge) or do something extraordinary to make the 53. Which is fine.

Tyler Lockett has been open his entire career and I don't see him retiring or being traded unless he feels like it. That said, we've seen him go into body-preservation mode at this point of his career, so I would anticipate JSN ascending to the WR2 this season in terms of number of snaps played. Which is also fine.

Does anybody want to swap WR/TE rooms with anyone else in the league? I don't. I think we're better than even the Bears.

The point of the 4 vert offense is to cause stress on defenses that rely on zone or man. Bobo with his size and quicks is very capable in Grubb's offensive scheme.

Waldron and McVay offenses tend to put stress horizontally while with the 4 vert it is vertically stressful on safeties so there will be opportunities underneath for Bobo to shine.
