I have no idea what they see in him as a return guy. He cost us at least 35 yards on back to back muffs one he should have just let go out of bounds.

I put this thread out over two years ago, and it still holds true. Although DJ Dallas is a reliable returner and that he’ll get you 20 yards he will never ever ever break one. Putting Eskridge back there was something a lot of us have called for for a long time. Even when Eskridge was injured, they needed to get someone back there with speed. This is what drives fans crazy as how the hell in the world don’t coaches see this but the fans do?

One of many boneheaded coaching decisions over the years that is obvious even to the most casual fan

My main issue with DeeJay is his overconfidence in the punt return game leading to a lot of close catches.

His efficiency is perfectly fine though. He doesn't dance, he gets north/south, and he's currently in the top 5 of yards per punt return, and top 10 in yards per kick return if you exclude players with 3 or less kick returns.

I don't even like DeeJay as a player and wanted him to be included in cuts, but I have nothing but surprising respect for his performance on special teams thus far.

It's time for "Big Play" Tre to return kicks. He was the main kick returner for Oklahoma his sophomore and junior years. His senior year, he returned only 2 kicks, but averaged 43.0 yards per return.

It's time. Nothing to lose.
I don't know, maybe next year... DeeJay is producing and honestly, I'd rather open him up to injury than Tre.

Top 10 in KR average
top 5 in PR average
My biggest problem with him is there is zero chance of a homerun and he allows to many punts to land instead of getting under them and fair catching.

there is little chance of a homerun in the return game in the NFL. Rule changes and how good kickers and punters are now makes it highly unlikely. A big return is almost more luck if it happens

You need multiple bad whiffs from the kicking team, feels like.

Only 7 TD's in the return game this year, 5 of which were punts. You only need to be fast enough to get through the lane if you have one. Otherwise, field position on average is going to be more valuable than the exceedingly miniscule chance of a return TD.
