If there's one specific instance I can point to for which Clint Hurtt should be tarred and feathered, it is the game against Dallas last year.

Geno Smith had an elite performance. Zach Charbonnet broke out (low average, but was consistent and moved the pile). Geno faced a staggering pressure rate of 54% on his dropbacks. Despite this, Geno did not take a single sack and the Seahawks offense did not have a single drive ending in a punt. They were 4 out of 5 in the red zone and passed for 16 first downs (meaning 16 of Geno's 23 completions moved the chains).

They still lost 41-35.

Clint, I hope you stub your toe most mornings for the rest of your coaching career for that one, bud. All we needed on defense was to slow them a little bit. Offense had that game won for us on the road against one of the best teams in the NFL.

And don't tell me it was Pete. It was, of course, Pete's responsibility to can Hurtt's ass after 2022 - but Hurtt took a defense that constantly defended the run pretty well with a tried-and-tried 4-3 under with 3-4 principles and bear fronts mixed in and turned it into a Fangio Frankenstein 4-2 sad nickel sieve. Pete's pre-2022 defense would've had us cruising in that game.

So glad I don't have to worry about that dude any more. Sad, because he's a pretty good DL coach. But god damn, I've never seen a guy run head first into the Peter Principle with as much force as Hurtt did.

While I agree that we should have done better, for every positive thing you say about our offense in that game you could say the same about Dallas right? Prescott was more accurate than Geno on the day also with 0 turnovers, Pollard's stat line looked a lot like Charbonnet's etc. Ultimately that was a game with 19 accepted penalties (10 Seahawks 9 Dallas) which had as much bearing on the game as anything else - the refs were about as efficient as Geno and Prescott, 19/25 for 257 yards. Crazy

Yes, but the Seattle offense achieved this in spite of pressure that would render the majority of offenses almost completely neutralized.

Patrick Mahomes faced a 52% pressure rate in the Super Bowl which saw them blown out by Tampa 31-9. The Chiefs offense was destroyed by slightly less pressure than Seattle faced that game, yet Seattle's offense didn't let a single drive end in a punt.

Even a minimally decent defensive performance would've been enough for that win. What Seattle's offense achieved in spite of allowing an absolute assault on the quarterback is almost a miracle.

In almost every game he was DC, the run d was atrocious. So his biggest sin was tackling and run d

Last season with Hurtt as DC gave me Jim Mora Jr vibes.
It was a hopeless feeling to watch my beloved Hawks get chewed up, bitch slapped week after week. More frustrating is the fact Mr "Always compete"was complicit in his hire and retention .Hurtt was an average to below average yes man for PC. In what world would an average defensive line coach morph into a great coordinator?

PC got what he had coming to him.
