Make no mistake everyone, our Seahawks needed this game, and yes more than the Niners (for reasons I am about to explain) but we didn't play with enough discipline to get it. I do think there was officiating bias, but had we made fewer mistakes and executed better (even one more drive for a FG....or stopping any any one scoring 49ner dives....and all but one were sustained by drive extending penalties), we win this game, and win it handily.
Not only that, but it's time to refresh our LBs and run tackling. Allowing Gore to break off that last run when we just took the late lead was inexcusable.
Here's the situation: Had we won the game, we would be sitting pretty with the Division and a first round bye, and any win (or a loss by both the Saints and Panthers) would give HFA.
Now, we've let the Niners back into the division. It makes our next game against the Giants essentially a MUST WIN. Let's be honest everyone. With the Niners playing @TB, Atlanta, and Arizona (and Arizona is overrated because they've feasted on some weak opponents recently), the Niners won't lose another game. Because of the scheduling that favored the Niners, that means if the Niners ever catch up and tie us, THEY not US own the division and playoff seeding because of Divisional Tiebreak.
Essentially we gave back a full game and a half tonight to the Niners. The Niners now own the tiebreak. That means we effectively only have a game and a half lead on the Niners. Too close for comfort and it makes pretty much every game a must win until we DO clinch.
If we don't win next week, then if we fail to win either of our remaining home games, WE are the wildcard and the Niners win the division. That's no longer a remote possibility.
That said, if the Seahawks play the ball we know they can, they SHOULD beat the Giants and the Rams. That would be enough....but make no mistake. This was a loss we really couldn't afford and I am deepingly dissapointed.
