Ok, so, like most you I watched yesterday's game and was frustrated as all heck. My son, however, was a different story. This is the first year he's taken a real interest in football and my son couldn't have been more tickled to see his favorite team get a victory (and it wasn't just because he got to stay up late to watch the game).

So, in honor of my son reminding me that football is supposed to be fun, here are some positive thoughts from the game.

  • As my son said last night, a win is a win. Everyone here was plenty happy to freak out about the Seahawks actually holding their own against one of the five best teams in the league last week, so I'm officially giving you permission to be happy that the Seahawks won a crappy game instead of lost a good one.
  • Can we give our boys some props for respecting NFL traditions? A bunch of teams this year have been having good games on Thursday Night Football. Thankfully, the Seahawks didn't engage in any of that tomfoolery and had a good ol' fashioned debacle on Thursday Night, just as the Gods of Football demand!
  • Hey, it looks like Ryan Grubb found that 'Running Plays' section of his Playbook that had been missing! It's a Christmas miracle!
  • You guys think you have it bad watching a 6-3 victory? Imagine being a Chicago Bears fan that had to watch that 6-3 loss! With their #1 pick QB!
  • Hey, we can all stress about that sad offensive performance, but can we have a little positivity for a defense that allowed less points than had sacks?
  • Speaking of that offense, 6 points was still 6 more than the Houston Texans got on Wednesday. So, hey two field goals was still only the third worst offensive performance of Week 17 and we've only had 3 games so far!
  • By the way, did you know the Seahawks haven't won a game without scoring a TD in like 2 decades? If you actually sat through that whole thing, you were witnessing Seahawks history as it unfolded! Lucky you!

So, hey guys! There'll be plenty of chances to be as cynical and negative as you want, but this thread is here for those of you who want to enjoy the fact that the Seahawks just ensured themselves a winning season in Mike Macdonald's first year!

Happy holidays!

Great post

My first live Seahawks game was in Cleveland in 2001. A 9-6 barn burning Seahawks win!

Awesome post Dark Victory!!!

We all need to take notice of the very strong showing our D had last night and the Steady improvement they have made since Jones became our new MLB. I’m quite sure other teams now need to scheme around our DLine. starting to be impressed with the strength of our team on D.

Every W, especially those on the road, no matter how ugly, is a great thing.

I didn't really care that much about the result because I think momentum outside of game play is very overrated. I just wanted to see the team get out healthy, and it appears that was done, so I'm good. Geno's leg doesn't look 100%, but I don't know enough about his condition to say that sitting out would have even improved it much for next week.

I think Lockett saved our asses from losing that one. But we will likely have a long time waiting for another defensive effort to match what our D accomplished.
Thumbs up to Lockett! But this is actually the third game this season our D held another team to 0 TDs, so we actually haven't had to wait too long between defensive performances like that. (That said, I'm good if the offense wants to score more points than this in the future.)

I was under the impression our 7 sacks in a game was a team record.

I've said the same thing. It may have been ugly, but a win is a win. We are still alive in the playoff hunt. We just have to be Arizona fans this weekend.

Oh, I was referring to the points.

But yeah, 7 sacks is the record for the team this season, though we did have one with 6 earlier in the year. It's not an overall team record, though. (I'm pretty sure the 11 sack game against the Giants last year is the record holder.)

I sure wish we could have rolled some of those 11 Giant sack over to the game this year. That loss was extremely hurtful to our chances for standing this year.
On the plus side we have been in position to win every game we played this year save the Buffalo meltdown. The GB game was still tight until late, although it seemed like they were in dominant control for most of it.
