Dissapointed. Needed This Game. Going From Here

Make no mistake everyone, our Seahawks needed this game, and yes more than the Niners (for reasons I am about to explain) but we didn't play with enough discipline to get it. I do think there was officiating bias, but had we made fewer mistakes and executed better (even one more drive for a FG....or stopping any any one scoring 49ner dives....and all but one were sustained by drive extending penalties), we win this game, and win it handily.

Not only that, but it's time to refresh our LBs and run tackling. Allowing Gore to break off that last run when we just took the late lead was inexcusable.

Here's the situation: Had we won the game, we would be sitting pretty with the Division and a first round bye, and any win (or a loss by both the Saints and Panthers) would give HFA.

Now, we've let the Niners back into the division. It makes our next game against the Giants essentially a MUST WIN. Let's be honest everyone. With the Niners playing @TB, Atlanta, and Arizona (and Arizona is overrated because they've feasted on some weak opponents recently), the Niners won't lose another game. Because of the scheduling that favored the Niners, that means if the Niners ever catch up and tie us, THEY not US own the division and playoff seeding because of Divisional Tiebreak.

Essentially we gave back a full game and a half tonight to the Niners. The Niners now own the tiebreak. That means we effectively only have a game and a half lead on the Niners. Too close for comfort and it makes pretty much every game a must win until we DO clinch.

If we don't win next week, then if we fail to win either of our remaining home games, WE are the wildcard and the Niners win the division. That's no longer a remote possibility.

That said, if the Seahawks play the ball we know they can, they SHOULD beat the Giants and the Rams. That would be enough....but make no mistake. This was a loss we really couldn't afford and I am deepingly dissapointed.

I am pretty sure Seattle still owns the tiebreaker. We would own the best WLT PCT in common opponents since we beat CAR and NO and the Niners lost to them.

EDIT: Unless we lose both games to the other NFCW teams, in which case the Niners would win it. So yeah, it's still remote that the 49ers catch up and win the division.

I'm pretty sure this post is in vain. Seattle needs 1 more win to clinch the division and 2 more to clinch HFA. It doesn't really change things much at all.

I don't see how the 49ers own the tiebreaker. As far as I can tell the Seahawks own the tiebreaker.

Besides, Seattle has 2 losses and the 49ers have 4.

Things look good for the Seahawks. Not worried one bit.

Feeling the same way as you. Many may have seen this as a game we could of afforded to lose, I thought we had to win it. The Giants, Rams and Cards have been playing very well of late and worry me immensely.

We have a two game lead.... Chill out bro.

The master of the pointless post

I think Tampa Bay will be a tough game for SF. They have a damn good defense and Barron plays lights out.

San Fran has played one more division game than us. That makes them 4-1 in division right now vs our 3-1. That means that right now San Fran owns the divisional tie break and that supercedes all the other tiebreaks save head to head. The only way San Fran loses that advantage would be for them to lose to Arizona and for use to win both our divisional games in which case we win anyway because of record.

Basically in any scenario that involves a 49ner tie (assuming they win their last three....virtually guaranteed, and we lose 2 of out three), there is no scenario where we win the tiebreak with the 49ners.

That was the price of today's loss.

Well, the Giants most certainly did not play well today. They are now out of playoff contention. The Rams didn't play well either for that matter.

False. Our magic number to clinch the division is now 2. Same for HFA. Basically it's all or nothing now. Even if we beat the Giants next week, we DON'T clinch the division. That would take a Niner loss as well, and that won't happen.

Meh. We have a two game lead with three to play, two at home. SF is down two with three to play, two on the road. We're still in pretty good shape.

Again Blitzer, look at what the Rams and Giants have actually done over the last few weeks. No they have not been playing very well.

I mean I wanted this game too, but make no mistake: if we win next week, then even if we haven't clinched, we're all but set. We're not in a million years going to lose two straight home games to end this season.

its still on us. if we win out it don't matter.. just need 2 of three.
Personally I think it was GOOD that we lost... it brings our guys back down to earth. opens their eyes and will refocus the team

C'mon guys we lost a very close game to one of the better teams in the league (we weren't even favored). We haven't lost at home for a couple years. Two of our next opponents are playing awful right now. It would take a monumental meltdown for us to lose the division (even HFA) at this point.

Raise your hand if you think either the Cards or the Rams have a chance in HELL playing at the CLink. We got this. We didn't NEED this game, and of the four we had left, this one was by FAR our greatest chance of losing. Everyone just needs to chill the F out. Sheesh. We barely lost a game. Big frickin' deal. OH NOES!!! :240039:

I think if we don't go 2-1 against the Giants, Rams, and Cards with the last two at home, we don't deserve to win the division anyway.

I am inclined to agree, but the point is we won't if that happens (unless the Niners somehow lose and I don't think that'll happen).

I did not start the threat to lament today's loss. It's done. I started it to take a hard eyed and realistic look at what we need to do and how much of the cushion we had this morning is now gone.

Seattle is still favored for HFA but it's not HFA or basically nothing now. There is no margin for error.
