Trenches, Trenches, Trenches. The Eagles have that in bunches. They are so damn well coached and just a damn good team, top to bottom.
And I'm sure I'll get flamed for it, but Geno isn't even close to Hurts. There has to be an IT factor. Geno has proven he can beat some average to bad teams, along with a LOT of losses to teams above .500.
But......stats.

Trenches wins championships just as much, imo. I found myself very jealous watching how damn good they were on both sides of the ball.
Philly is a TEAM, more so than most in the league, imo.

Defense absolutely wins championships. That #1 defense made Mahomes and company look like absolute trash.
They looked like they were playing at a different speed.

See folks, that Creed Humphrey pass was spot on.

I loved their play style too. Efficient at QB. Defense = phenomenal.

They looked like they were playing at a different speed. Crushed Mahomes & Co.

Man…definitely jelly. That’s the kind of defense we had back in the day.

Absolutely punishing.

Agree with everything except you can't compare Geno's stats to Hurts after talking about how they have a damn good well coached team top to bottom. Hurts doesn't have an IT factor, he's surrounded by elite talent at every level.

Put Hurts on this team the last few years and it's not looking any different, maybe even worse the way Grubb called games

Some players have the IT factor in big game. It's just MY opinion that Geno doesn't have that. I hope to be quite wrong in the future.
Agree to disagree, Hurts is by far a better QB than Geno ever was or ever will be.

Exactly....maybe a few more yards running but that's about it.

I don’t think Hurts is dramatically better, he did have a ton of time to scan the field and make plays. Geno has the better arm and is more accurate. If he had an actual offensive line he would perform better. Hopefully they get him one.

Hurts is a difference maker because he is AUTOMATIC in any short yardage situation.
No other QB has this automatic play that wins every time. It's a huge difference maker to go along with being elusive and tough to bring down and add to that good speed when running.
All that makes him an elite QB. His arm is not elite and neither is his processing but those other qualities DO make him elite.
Geno is not remotely at Hurts level.

Hurts is not the most accurate QB but his situation awareness when it comes to 2 minute warnings and goal line/red zone situations is elite. Hurts has that Elway (eww Bronco) quality about him when the game is on the line.

2nd and 7th, looks like you need to be great at both.

With this reasoning can we say it looks like you need a dual threat QB too? So maybe we can’t win a SB with a 36 year old statue?
Exactly. It's almost like you need to be good at both sides of the ball consistently to win a bowl.

Watching Hurts and Mahomes, it reminds me that one quality that elite qb's have is improvisation combined with elusiveness and escapability, and the ability to turn nothing into something. Geno has never had that. If everything isn't perfect, he doesn't have the skill set to improvise and make it happen anyway. That's why I keep harping about a young qb. We need young, fresh legs, and someone with a killer instinct and the will to win no matter what. GePick is not that guy.

I couldn’t help but think of Carter/Spoon with this comment (I know there was no implication by you James).

Was Carter the trenches and Spoon the shiny object at other positions with freakish traits?

I’m not saying we chose poorly, but the Eagles got a steal at nine overall.

And they got two stud cornerbacks a year later anyway late in round 1 and round 2. So while Spoon is a stud, Carter, Mitchell, and DeJean were all brilliant moves on their part. We have to hope that Murphy makes a big leap in year two. Too many what ifs with this front office.
