Bump loves this move, and was a big proponent of Seattle acquiring Darnold.
Lol, no he doesn't. He said it can work, but only if seattle gives him an OLine and a running game. He also went on to say, I wish we could've seen what Geno could've been like behind a real OLine. Let's tell the whole story bud.

I remember Geno playing like ass for his first several years in the league. I don't think anybody, even the experts, predicted this kind of turnaround in his career when Seattle signed him.
At least Darnold has one good year under his belt before taking over, which was more than Geno had. So, why can't Darnold follow the same path as Geno?
I'd take this situation (Darnold, who is 7 years younger, as QB, ~$12m to spend, and a 3rd rounder) every day of the week. Maybe, if Geno didn't want so much in his check, they could have used it to help the OL. But, we'll never know.

This is our QB for the next three years.
JS can continue his strategy of waiting for a worthwhile QB to fall to him (without Pete or Russell getting in the way) and pull the trigger if one does.
Darnold or the young QB would become trade bait as soon as the team wants to bring it down to 1 of them, or when Darnold's contract expires, whichever comes first.

So you're gonna make me pull receipts huh? Okay.

1:30:40 Mark.

"I like the move. This is the one that I wanted to go down. Thank you for listening to me, John Schneider... giving this team some direction... I think that's huge".

Yes they liked the move because A. It means they're totally revamping the offense, B. Darnold was the best option available. At no time did they say or do they think this was an upgrade, at no time did they say they wanted Geno traded before it happened. Brock tweated out minutes after the trade went down, he was floored, and said this shocked him more than the Wilson trade. What they are saying in that piece is basically this was the best case scenario given the choices. And saulk was ranting that he would take anyone but Roger's. And that's what he was thanking Schneider for. Neither of them wanted Geno traded, neither did bump, neither did wyman and Bob, neither did Mina Kimes, neither did Sherman, I could go on. They all said they better beef up the OLine, because Darnolds delta between a clean pocket and pressure is far less than Genos. In other words Darnold does not operate under pressre as well as Geno. This was not an upgrade... period. Is Darnold a good QB? Yes in a clean pocket. Let's hope they give him one this season.

No idea how this will play out, but last time I checked, 14 wins is a lot better than 10, although he still hasn't won a playoff game. At worst, he's a cheaper bridge qb that gets us through the next 2-3 years while we draft and develop a rookie qb.

Sure. All those things you said can be true. I'm not debating that. I simply said this was a move that Bump wanted. Which he did. His reasons as to why and how to maximize its effectiveness is an entirely different conversation.

I’ a big fan of the title of this thread. Before I even opened it, I was like..

“Darnold Works”?

Hmmmm

Yeah, that’s well said. He does work for now.

He’s not a huge step back (if at all) from Geno, he’s cheaper, he’s younger, he’s loved in the locker room, and he’s signed for the perfect tenure to gap us into drafting and grooming a QB.

Hope not. I like the signing as long as were looking at QB's in the draft.
If you can't get a better QB in the draft, you may be able to get Ewers in the 3rd or 4th round. I would have went Balls to the wall to get the former Bear, former Steeler 1st round pick who hasn't worked out.. Either he makes himself into a slash type QB with an upside, or you find another... too late though. His name slips my mind, but he has the makings.

Have no clue what you're talking about. Seahawks downgraded at the QB position this off season, and I'm not the only one who thi ks so. Go see what sherm thinks, go see what Brock and saulk think, go see what bump thinks, go see what the boys at the nfl network think. Not one expert, ex player is saying the seahawks have upgraded at QB. They all say, they better beef up the line because darnold can't handle pressure and we saw that in his last two games. If you think he can, you're a fool.
If Sherman says it's I would check his BAC and wear a light jacket. I think the entire point is to improve the OL, the Seahawks are not far off from solidifying that through the draft

Figured some team would be stupid enough to give Darnold a big contract.

Wish it wasn't us but whatever.

This is why you have to draft a QOTF or else you are stuck spinning your wheels.
While it’s the idea, we see lots of supposed QBOTF no longer with their orginal team. QBs are a crapshoot

Darnold could be here for the next 10-12 years, I'm not saying it will
happen but if your playbook is set to his strengths and the OL /running
game is decent - You never know .. He's 27 and could be getting better
(finally) I hope anyway.
He kind of reminds me of a Carson Palmer /Favre hybrid but obviously not
at that level yet anyway.
He wanted to be here unlike the previous two so that's a plus to me.

3 years with only 55 guaranteed .. Lot cheaper than GeNO.
That's still 3 years you are stuck w Darnold.

Doesn't he fold under pressure like an IKEA deck chair? Will giving him a worse line and much worse offense help that?
