Any way I heard the segment and read the full text and he sounded all business as usual. You omitted the part where he stated that he would not hold out because that could hurt the team's development.
He should absolutely be a top 3-5 paid QB. No doubt.
I just don't know if the Seahawks feel the same. Russ can say his one word tweets don't have hidden meaning, but I have a tough time buying that. Especially the last one:
Reciprocity.
The offer the team reportedly made to him would have made him the 3rd highest paid player in the league.
And he wants to be #1. No doubt he will get it if he hits free agency or the Hawks try to use a unrestricted franchise tag on him.
Clayton said the team has already offered him at least $21.75 million per year. So we're talking about being less than $250k away from the highest paid in the game.
My theory is the Hawks will offer him #1 money (because there isn't a significant gap) once he comes back down to earth and recognizes what #1 money is. $22 million per year in new money is #1 money.
$27 million APY-- to get to $22 million APY, including this season-- is 123% of what Aaron Rodgers makes per year. It would cripple this team.
It will be funny to see what happens if Wilson refuses to sign an extension and then Luck signs a relatively team-friendly extension for around $22-25 million per year in new money. Wilson's whole argument goes out the window.
